COMMERCIALIZATION CONNECT
SEPTEMBER 2018
OTC IS A RESOURCE TO UK!
The Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) is a resource for University of Kentucky researchers and startups. UK OTC’s Intellectual Property Development Team performs invention assessments, facilitates patenting and federal funding invention compliance through iEdison. The Commercialization & Licensing Team manages commercialization, licensing, options and related partnership agreements. The New Ventures Team helps to form and grow startups through our co.create program and UK Startup Network. The Strategic Alliances Team manages internal and external outreach to potential partners and collaborators, and communication for OTC services, programs and events. The OTC provides programs (UKAccel and UKPitch), celebratory events (Patent Palooza!, UK Startup Networking and UKWIN Conference) and other services, resources, events, and programs.

RISING STRONG WITH UKWIN

The OTC is hosting our first UKWIN Conference with featured speaker, Dr. Linda Dwoskin, and a great panel that includes a patent attorney, angel investor, UK faculty member who has disclosed and filed a patent, and a UK staff member who has founded a startup.

There will be informative discussions and an opportunity to network.

Ian McClure, OTC director, presented to Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) faculty on technology commercialization as part of the partnership between UK and EKU. Research Commercialization opportunity is limited if each university uses only its own resources to operate only within its own ecosystem and network. University-to-University partnering is critical, especially those with regional or other synergistic affiliation.
OTC staff participated in the Ohio Valley Affiliates for Life Sciences (OVALS) Retreat on September 7 with tech transfer offices from University of Cincinnati, Indiana University, University of Louisville, Ohio State University and Ohio University. The retreat provided an opportunity to network, discuss best practices, and learn from one another.
We are excited to welcome Caylin Easley, student marketing assistant, to the OTC team. She is a senior marketing and management major with a minor in international business. We are glad to have her as part of our team.

How an Energetic Open-Minded Spirit Developed a Revolutionary Approach to Cancer Care?
Cancer is a prevalent disease in the world, and radiation therapy is a common and effective form of cancer treatment. In radiation therapy, medical accelerators aim beams of high energy particles at tumors to destroy or damage cancer cells while avoiding damage to important healthy normal tissue.
