Pilgrims Report on the Holy Land
Sunday, September 23, 10:10 a.m.
in Community Hall

Presenters: Greg Jones and 2018 Pilgrims
Come hear the stories of Westminster pilgrims to the Holy Land. We will share our adventures, photos and reflections as we traced the footsteps of Jesus. Our group visited and worshipped in sites in Israel, Palestine and Jordan in the hot summer month of June, and we brought back treasured memories of our time together.
Understanding Adolescence
Sundays, September 23 and 30, 10:10 a.m.
in Classroom 5

Facilitator: Yvonne Nass, Certified Parent Educator
Adolescence is an on-going process from puberty to adulthood. Teens recycle earlier stages of development, resolve developmental tasks, and prepare to separate. This two-part series will help caregivers understand how to support teens as they bridge one of the most stressful time periods, not only for them but also for their caregivers.

THIS MONTH'S THEME: Transforming Lives
Important Usher Training in September
Sundays, September 23 and 30, 10:10 a.m. in Grace Hall
All ushers are asked to attend a September training session to review new church emergency and security measures for sanctuary worship services. Also, a "brush up" on current ushering procedures will be given to assure we are a welcoming congregation. The training will be given during the 10:TEN hour on Sundays, September 23 and 30, in Grace Hall. All sanctuary worship ushers need to attend only one of the sessions on a Sunday convenient for them. The lead ushers are coordinating the attendance for their teams.
Dining for Guatemala
Thursday, September 27, 5:30 p.m.

Come for dinner at the home of Bunny Michener (615 Kilburn Road, Tavistock) on Thursday, September 27, at 5:30 p.m. We won't begin dinner until after 6:00. Bring an hors d'oeuvre, a main dish salad, a side salad or a dessert and a donation (suggested $20). A variety of drinks will be provided. Call (302) 478-4224 and say you will be coming. Please leave a message. Cathy Higgins and Carrie Saathoff will be available to answer questions.
Book Discussion - "Waking Up White"
Thursday, September 27, 6:30 p.m. in the Ruth Christie Room
Discussion facilitators Liz Bacon and Jane Palmer invite you to join us for what promises to be a fascinating discussion of Waking Up White, written by Winchester, Massachusetts native Debby Irving. Debby describes her journey from what she terms "white oblivion" to an enlightening and energizing awareness of race, transforming confusion into curiosity and anxiety into action. There are four copies of this book available in our Westminster library for you to borrow. You need not have read the (whole) book in order to participate in the discussion. We look forward to seeing you!

White people are unaccustomed to talking about race and its implications in their lives.Yet, at some level, everyone recognizes that racism and prejudice have a profound impact on our communities and our country. We need opportunities to experience the challenges and benefits that come from bringing racial issues into the light of day. All are welcome to join us on September 30 as we continue the journey of exploring our beliefs about race, with openness to differing opinions and respect for one another.
