Interested in Trails, the Environment, or Tourism?
Did you know that trails have proven economic, environmental, physical and social benefits? Join us for a conversation on December 6th as we explore the benefits of promoting existing trails or perhaps even building new ones as suggested by the 2012 Heritage Trails Master Plan .

The Heritage Trails Master Plan is described as a "community envisioned blueprint for a county-wide network of trails, greenways and blueways to connect people, places, and
events around Caswell County. Think of the Master Plan as a 'green road map' of
proposed trails connecting the “not-to-miss” natural, cultural, historical and heritage amenities of the county. These would include trails connecting historic sites, cultural events, civic locations and other features. The Plan also illustrates proposed connections to cross-border regional trails, parks, and routes."

Jenny Edwards with the Dan River Basin Association and Palmer McIntyre with Piedmont Legacy Trails will be there to help us make sense of it all on Friday, December 6th at 10:30am in the Large Conference Room of Caswell Family Medical Center, 439 US Hwy 158W, Yanceyville, NC. 27379. Interested in being a part of the conversation but unable to attend the December 6th meeting? Let us know!

Learn About ACEs...
RESILIENCE WEEK is a first-of-its-kind North Carolina engagement campaign in partnership with KPJR Films UNC-TV and  Prevent Child Abuse NC starting the week of November 18th, 2019.
As a part of RESILIENCE WEEK, UNC-TV will offer an exclusive public television broadcast of the award-winning film RESILIENCE  on Tuesday, November 19th, 8 pm EDT on UNC-TV.

This documentary chronicles the impact of toxic stress on children’s well-being and explores strategies used by educators, therapists, pediatricians, and communities to disrupt cycles of violence and trauma.

As a reminder, the Caswell Chapter of The Health Collaborative has a copy of the film and is happy co-host screenings for local community groups. Contact us for more information.
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are potentially traumatic events that occur in childhood. ACEs can include violence, abuse, and growing up in a family with mental health or substance use problems. Toxic stress from ACEs can change brain development and affect how the body responds to stress. ACEs are linked to chronic health problems, mental illness, and substance misuse in adulthood. However, ACEs can be prevented.

Consider the Connections Matter and Protective Factors training listed with the learning opportunities below to learn more about how to reduce ACEs.

Connections Matter & Protective Factors Training Dec 9 - In this workshop, we explore topics such as Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), trauma, brain development, and resilience. We will teach you how these topics intersect with one another, and most importantly, how you can apply these concepts within your own life and your respective communities. The protective factors are conditions in families and communities that, when present, increase the health and well-being of children and families. These attributes serve as buffers, helping parents find resources, support, or coping strategies that allow them to parent effectively, even under stress. Research has shown that the protective factors are linked to a lower incidence of child abuse and neglect.
