October is shaping up to be a busy month, with opportunities for you as an Orange County resident to let me know your thoughts on
transportation issues
. We have already had two Transportation Town Hall meetings and will host two more this month. On
October 3
, I will be at the Goldenrod Recreation Center with District 5 Commissioner Emily Bonilla. Additionally, on
October 17
I will join District 4 Commissioner Maribel Gomez Cordero at the Renaissance Community Senior Center.
We want to hear your concerns about your commute and where you would like money to be spent in order to improve long-term transportation in our community.
We will then take your input to formulate a plan to bring to voters in advance of the November 2020 elections, as we ask for a penny sales tax increase for transportation.

While transportation is important, safety remains our number-one priority. Last month, we activated our Emergency Operations Center ahead of Hurricane Dorian, and it was heartening to see our residents prepare for what could have been a highly destructive storm. Our hearts go out to the people of the Bahamas, as they recover from the worst natural disaster in that country’s history. We ask that you keep your hurricane supplies handy, in case we face another storm. Hurricane season is not over until the end of November.

When Tiffany Manuel, Ph.D., president and CEO of TheCaseMade, spoke before Orange County Mayor Demings’ Housing for All Task Force in September 2019, her message was clear. Orange County – like many other county and city entities – does not have a public awareness problem surrounding affordable housing. Everybody is talking about it, but acceptance is another story.

Recently, the region’s first autonomous shuttles were on the road in Lake Nona. Orlando’s fastest-growing community has two fully electric, driverless shuttles in service that operate daily.

The 5th annual Florida Simulation Summit was held on Sept. 26, 2019 at the Orange County Convention Center.
Mayor Demings kicked off the event by stating the importance of the modeling, simulation and training (MS&T) sector in the Central Florida region and beyond.

I am so proud of the Orange County Government Procurement Division. They are the recipient of the
2019 Achievement of Excellence in Procurement
award, presented by the National Procurement Institute. This honored award recognizes excellence in procurement by organizations that obtain high scores on standardized criteria that measure innovation, professionalism, e-procurement, productivity and leadership attributes in the procurement profession.

Come Out With Pride Parade

Mayor Demings, along with Orange County Government employees, will participate in the annual
Come Out With Pride Parade
and Festival on Sat., Oct. 12, 2019 at Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando. The parade will begin at 4 p.m. The Come Out With Pride Parade is the largest LGBTQ+ parade and festival in Central Florida. Visit
