Trump signals need to fight Canadian dairy policies

While speaking in Wisconsin Tuesday to announce his Buy American - Hire American executive order, President Donald Trump also said he plans to "stand up for our dairy farmers" regarding trade concerns with Canada.

"I've been reading about it, and I've been talking about it for a long time -- and that demands, really immediately, fair trade with all of our trading partners, and that includes Canada," Trump said in a speech at a Snap-On plant in Kenosha, Wis. "What's happened to you is very, very unfair. It's another typical one-sided deal against the United States, and it's not going to be happening for long."
Canada argues its dairy policies not trade-distorting

This week, President Donald Trump took on a new Canadian dairy pricing system, which U.S. milk industry groups contend is acting as a trade barrier to exports into Canada.

In a letter to Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday, however, Canada ambassador David MacNaughton argued that Canada's dairy policies are not the cause of financial loss for U.S. dairy farmers.

National Dairy FARM program releases
updated drug residue manual

The National Dairy FARM Program, created by National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) in 2009, has released the 2017 edition of its "Milk & Dairy Beef Drug Residue Prevention Manual," the primary educational tool for dairy managers covering the judicious, responsible use of antibiotics and how to prevent drug residues in milk and meat.

The "Milk & Dairy Beef Drug Residue Prevention Manual" serves as a valuable tool to the more than 40,000 dairy producers who participate in the FARM Program. It is a convenient resource for dairy farmers to review the antibiotics approved for use in dairy animals and to develop the comprehensive, on-farm best management practices necessary to avoid milk and meat residues. The manual includes the most up-to-date veterinary drug information supplied by manufactures, including appropriate withdrawal times.

You can Still Become a Sponsor of the Large Dairy Herd Management
(3rd edition, e-book)
Nonprofit organizations, companies, and individuals are invited to take advantage of the opportunity to sponsor one or more of the remaining available sections of the Large Dairy Herd Management (LDHM) e-book currently in development. Sponsors will receive recognition for a three-year period as the e-book is used throughout the dairy industry worldwide.

The ADSA® Foundation is publishing this extensively revised and updated edition of the book in early 2017.

The third edition (98 chapters) will be available in e-book format (designed to allow for convenient updating) with completely new content. It will be sold at ADSA member, nonmember, and student rates and distributed directly by ADSA.

Anticipated users of the e-book include dairy management professionals, progressive producers, extension educators, consultants, upper-level university students studying dairy science and management, and allied industry representatives. The book is written in a practical application style but reflects the scientific rigor of the Journal of Dairy Science®.

As an e-book sponsor, you will receive international recognition for supporting the delivery of up-to-date, peer-reviewed dairy management information to the global dairy industry. Initial e-book section sponsors will have right of first refusal to renew after the initial three-year period of recognition. DON'T WAIT! There are only a limited number of sections available and sponsorship needs to be confirmed prior to publication.   For information on sponsorship and the worldwide recognition it will bring, please contact Larry Miller at largedairyherdmanagement@adsa.org
