Policy
Sports Medicine Licensure Clarity Act Passes Senate
On September 6, 2018, the
Sports Medicine Licensure Clarity Act (S.808) passed the Senate. This bipartisan legislation clarifies health services that sports medicine professionals can provide to an athlete, athletic team, or staff member. The legislation would allow covered sports medicine professionals to treat injured athletes across state lines. The bill must pass the House before it heads to the president's desk to be signed into law.  Learn More
House Passes the Every Kids Outdoors Act The Every Kid Outdoors Act (H.R.3186) just passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support (383-2). The Every Kid Outdoors Act would provide 4th graders & their families free entrance to all federally managed land, waters, & historic sites, including our national parks. Learn More
PHIT Passes House For First Time In a huge victory for America's health, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act, which would allow the use of pre-tax savings accounts for physical activity-related expenses. PHIT has been a longtime NCPPA priority and was included in a bipartisan package of Health Savings Account (HSA) reforms that passed in the House by a vote of 277-142. Now, the measure moves to the Senate for further consideration. Learn More
Save the Land and Water Conservation Fund #SaveLWCF The Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) was established by Congress in 1964 to fulfill a bipartisan commitment to safeguard our natural areas, water resources, cultural heritage, and to provide recreation opportunities to all Americans. LWCF is America's most important program to conserve irreplaceable lands and improve outdoor recreation opportunities throughout the nation. Funding for this critical program is in jeopardy. NCPPA urges Congress to act fast to secure reauthorization for LWCF before it expires on September 30. Learn More

Newly Released State of Obesity 2018 Report The Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation recently released the State of Obesity 2018 Report. Each year, the "State of Obesity: Better Policies for a Healthier America" report highlights the latest obesity trends as well as strategies, policies, programs, and practices that can reverse the epidemic. 1.4 Billion Adults At risk of Disease from Not Doing Enough physical activity New data published in The Lancet Global Health show that more than one in four adults globally are physically inactive. The paper, authored by four World Health Organization experts, reports data that update 2008 estimates on levels of activity and, for the first time, reports trend analyses showing that overall, the global level of inactivity in adults remains largely unchanged since 2001. CDC's Active People Healthy Nation: Active People Healthy Nation: Creating an Active America, Together was released online in the July issue of the Journal of Physical Activity and Health. The article discusses the purpose of Active People Healthy Nation , and outlines five action steps centered on core public health functions. Read the Article.
WHO Global Action Plan on Physical Activity 2018-2030 The new WHO global action plan to promote physical activity responds to the requests by countries for updated guidance, and a framework of effective and feasible policy actions to increase physical activity at all levels. Read the Plan.
Older Adults Who Get Physical Can Lower their Heart Disease Risk according to a new report in the Journal of the American Heart Association. Read the Report.

Action for Healthy Kids (AFHK) and Active Schools together announce that AFHK is the new organizational home for Active Schools, a collective impact initiative formerly known as Let's Move! Active Schools.  Learn More
Active Aging Week September 23-29 Active Aging Week is a weeklong campaign that calls attention to and celebrates the positivity of aging today. The objective of the annual health-promotion event is to give as many older adults as possible the means to experience wellness activities and exercise in a safe, supportive environment. Learn More

Nickelodeon's 15th Annual Worldwide Day of Play 
On September 29, Nickelodeon will commemorate its 15th annual Worldwide Day of Play celebration when the network will once again suspend programming across Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Nicktoons, TeenNick and NickMusic, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. (ET/PT), in order to encourage kids to go outside and get active.
