CLC News
by Mitzi Hudgins

The Christian Learning Center is so excited to begin our 27th school year!  We welcomed back over 160 students and 27 staff members to CLC!  The children are learning their new schedule, making new friends, using their imagination, and learning how much God loves them!

One of our favorite times at CLC is when we have chapel. We sing songs, read Bible stories, and praise God!  We always have prayer leaders who help lead us in the pledges to the Bible, Christian flag, and Pledge of Allegiance.  It is such a joy to watch these children having fun in chapel and learning more about just how very much God loves them!  Tuesday in chapel we taught about how God's protection over us is like an umbrella, keeping us safe as the umbrella protects us from the rain.  He will keep us safe if we trust in Him and pray for protection and comfort.

This year at CLC our focus Bible verse is Deuteronomy 6:5-7:  "Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."   It is my prayer that our children will continue to grow in their love for God, and that our staff and family members will continue to encourage and raise them up.

Finally, the Christian Learning Center would like to thank  Blaine Fehrenbacher  for all of his help putting together new supplies for our classrooms.  We appreciate his servant's heart!!

May you be blessed this week!
Discipleship and Education
by David Sweet

What will we think about in heaven?

When you die--if you are a believer--the very next experience will be with the Lord in heaven.  What will you think about?

I don't know.  But I believe that we probably won't think ever again about most of what we think about here.  We won't think about our favorite sports team ever again.  We won't think about our own country and our love for it.  We won't even think about the great state of Texas!

What will we be thinking about?  Or, what will our spirits be filled with?  We will be filled with the awe and wonder of worship as we behold His glory.  And apparently this will be almost all that we think about.  And it will never fade in intensity and joy!

So, by all means be a sports team fan, a patriotic American and a proud Texan for now.  But just remember--you will never, ever care about these things ever again once you die.

Maybe we shouldn't be quite so filled with thoughts now--that we will never ever think again or care about, once we die?

"So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."  2 (Cor. 4:18)

Crisis parenting conference   September 27-29 and November 1-3 of 2018 near Longview, Texas

"It is difficult to know what to do and how to react when your teen daily reaches new lows in disobedience, dishonesty, and disrespect, and chooses every wrong thing.

When your teen is caught in "The Spin Cycle," he or she needs parents to intervene. The downward spiral can have tremendous destructive potential with lifelong consequences, or even bring a young life to a quick end. Responsible adults need to respond, not  react, even if the teen does everything they can to shut their parents out."  https://www.familycrisisretreat.com/

Thank you so much for your love and support of children's ministry! Jesus is doing amazing work in the lives of our children and it is a privilege to watch him do his thing! Please keep praying that we would be faithful point our kids to Jesus and equip their parents to shepherd their hearts every day!

Jesus blessed us with 57 children  on Wednesday night for AWANA! I am rejoicing in how the Lord is getting the scriptures into the heads, hands, and hearts of our children. We still need at least 2 adults to help lead AWANA. If you are interested please let me know.

From Pastor Aaron

Tonight, the Together in Prayer group will meet in D-208 from 6:45-8:15pm to pray for our families, our church, our community, and our world. If you've been looking for a place to plug in or an opportunity to pray with others I hope you'll join us tonight.

On Sunday, we'll be welcoming new members into our fellowship as we celebrate the Lord's Supper. We'll take time to thank the Lord for the salvation He has purchased for us through His life and death on the cross and for the fellowship He has created for us in His body, the Church. I'm looking forward to celebrating with you!

Would you circle October 14th on your calendar? At 6pm on Sunday, October 14th, we will have our next members' meeting and there is much for us to pray over and discuss as a congregation. We're going to open our members' meeting with a time of prayer, asking for God to bless us through the collective wisdom of His body, and then we'll work our way through an agenda that will be filled with items critical to our mission to bring life-changing hope, to an ever-changing people, through the unchanging gospel.

The items will include:

Proposed Renovation of the Jr. High Room - we have a growing student ministry and as we seek to prepare for continued growth we are creating distinct middle school and high school groups. The elders along with the budget & finance committee are proposing a renovation of the current Jr. High Room to create space that will not only be functional, but will give our middle school group a clear sense that they belong and are valued.

Request for Funds to Begin Architectural Schematics for Potential Expansion of Sanctuary or Construction of New Sanctuary - over the past several years we have experienced consistent growth in worship attendance.  In 2014, our average worship attendance was 269 with 20 children in our preschool hallway. This year, we're on pace to average 388 in worship with 60 children in our preschool hallway. In 2014, we had an average of more than 100 available parking spots on Sunday mornings. This year, we have about 50. If growth continues at this rate, we will be in need of additional worship space and parking within the next two years. The two options we would like to explore are a possible expansion of Bldg. D or the construction of new sanctuary space.

We are excited to see what the Lord is doing in and through us here at Hays Hills and are eager to think and pray together about what the Lord would have us do to continue to share the hope of Christ with our neighbors and the nations.

Prayer Updates

Young men and women are gathering at the Bible Training Center in Mirik, India, for the next 40 days to be trained to share the hope of Jesus Christ with the people of India, Nepal, and Bhutan. Be praying for Dawa and his team as they train these young people to be effective evangelists for the sake of the kingdom of God. Pray for the students who are receiving the training to be used by God in a powerful way in the Himalayan region.

Our Christian sympathy is extended to Beth Cathcart in the loss of her father.  The funeral service will be this Friday, 10 AM, at First Baptist Church, Buda.

Christi Ming (Navarro) is recovering from a second surgery due to spinal fluid leakage and bacterial meningitis.

Lillie Bell Harwood, (member and mom of Sarah Ann Will) is now home, and under hospice care.

Kathey Henley is deployed with Homeland Security in response to hurricane recovery.

Wade & Denise Strickland on their return to the mission field in Indonesia.

The elders would appreciate your prayers for wisdom as we consider what the Lord would have us do to accommodate continued church growth. We're thankful the difficult decisions we're confronted with stem from more people coming to know Jesus and more people growing to be more like Jesus! We'll take all of those problems the Lord would choose to send our way!
