PANTHER PRIDE!
After spending first quarter in training at the Technology & Manufacturing Association in Schaumburg, our CNC cohort ALL passed their first NIMS exam and earned an industry-recognized credential as a CNC Lathe Operator! They’ve also achieved nearly perfect attendance over quarter one. This outstanding achievement gives them an advantage when applying for positions in the advanced manufacturing industry in our community. It also communicates to potential employers that they have met a standard of excellence and are ready for entry-level positions in the industry. Round of applause to you all! We’re so proud of you!
Proviso West Welcomes HAMILTON to the Theatre classes!
Ms. Gillespie's Theatre classes were truly in the room where it happens on October 31st and had an opportunity to Skype with two company members from Broadway's smash hit, Hamilton, and learn about their experience in professional theatre both on Broadway and on tour. Steve Henry, Stage Manager for the company presently in San Francisco, spoke to students about the technical side of a Broadway production and his experience traveling with this and other shows. Students were also excited to speak to Antuan Magic Raimone, Universal Swing, about life on the road in a unique position as an understudy in Hamilton throughout the United States. Antuan and Steve both remarked about the thought-provoking questions submitted by the students. They were excited to share details of life on the road, how they navigate complicated situations such as discrimination in the theatre world, and how they balance their family life while so far away from home. After the experience, Ms. Gillespie shared "My Theatre students truly loved being able to ask questions of professionals and they could not stop talking about what they learned!" We are excited to continue to create opportunities for professionals to share their expertise with our talented students! Upcoming workshops in the planning stages include theatrical and special effects make-up, a technical workshop on scene design, and other exciting topics. Stay tuned for more from our performing arts at Proviso West!
