Your Monthly URISA News & Updates
Very best wishes to all who have been impacted by recent (or approaching) storms.

As the 2018 hurricane season has picked up energy, URISA has been engaged in the gathering and sharing of information that can help communities prepare for and quickly recover from these disasters. Click the button below for more info.

One of the most important examples of our service has been the work of  URISA's GISCorps  which has been working with the  NAPSG Foundation  to crowdsource data for emergency preparedness and response related to Hurricanes Florence and Isaac.

Tomorrow, September 20, is the one year anniversary of Hurricane Maria destroying Puerto Rico.  Recovery is difficult for hurricane survivors given the extent of destruction and the many obstacles to getting back to normalcy. Financial resources for the massive reconstruction are limited.

The Problem: Local government agencies and other community organizations are experiencing a desperate need for current maps that show flood zones, landslide prone areas, transportation and other critical infrastructure which were heavily impacted throughout the island.
The Solution : Updated mapping will help local communities rebuild and plan for future disasters, as well as make important decisions about the sustainability of their communities.

Please help these small communities recover and prepare for the future, by funding travel expenses for GISCorps volunteers that will provide them with maps to aid in recovery planning.
A GoFundMe campaign has been started to help make this vision a reality. Donations are tax-deductible. Every little bit helps.
