Mail Scam Threatens Penalties for "Tax Debt"
Beware of a recently reported mail scam threatening penalties if recipients don't pay non-existing tax debt immediately.
PA residents have recently reported receiving notifications through the mail from the "Tax Processing Center." The notices say the recipient owes "The State of Pennsylvania" unpaid taxes and a "warranted lien" has been issued in their name. The Department of Revenue will send multiple letters to taxpayers if there is a legitimate liability owed.

The pest has prompted a quarantine on plants in southeastern PA, including Berks, Bucks and Montgomery counties. The action Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture restricts the movement of plants, plant-based materials and outdoor household items out of the quarantine area.  You can call a special hotline at 1-888-422-3359 with questions on spotted lanternfly management or to report a sighting, or report a spotted lanternfly sighting online.

Ursinus College presents Tomorrow 3.0: Surviving, and Maybe Thriving, in a New Marketplace

Advances in technology are driving rapid changes in the nature of entrepreneurship and work. Duke University political science professor Michael Munger will speak on this pressing topic at Ursinus College the evening of Oct. 22 in an event open to the general public.
The author of a newly published book, "Tomorrow 3.0" (Cambridge University Press), Munger argues that the combination of (1) the network of networks called the internet, (2) powerful mobile devices, and (3) innovative software apps available to anyone who has the first two things, is going to change our lives. It is possible for entrepreneurs to sell reductions in transaction costs, which will in turn result in the commodification of excess capacity. This suggests that instead of owning and storing, many societies will share, either through rentals or new mechanisms that have yet to be devised. There will be far fewer "jobs," in the traditional sense.
How will you handle this new world? In his talk, Munger will try to provide some answers.
Munger's talk is sponsored by the Economics Ambassadors program, an Ursinus Business and Economics Department initiative in which students organize events exploring the relationship between economics, politics, and a free and prosperous society.

Community Music School presents Landscapes of Latin America Concert

Latin American music is its original blending of the variety of styles that arrived in The Americas and became influential, from the early Spanish and European Baroque to the contrasting beats of the African rhythms. One of the main characteristics of Latin American music is its diversity, from the lively rhythms and wonderful lyrical melodies. Spain as well as South America have long and rich musical history full of captivating sounds and characters. This program highlights some of the highly developed rhythmic patterns, featuring a number of styles, concepts, instrumentation and structures. For this program we will be performing music selections by Lecuona, Piazzolla, Fuentes and Villa-Lobos among others.
