California Is Burning. The Time Is Now.
Our hearts are with everyone impacted by the raging fires in California. Fueled by climate change, the fires have led to massive evacuations, destruction, and school closings.

What can we do to help? In addition to direct aid, we encourage everyone to redouble efforts to teach about climate justice. The mainstream media continues to ignore the connection between climate change and the wildfires. Our classrooms must be sites to explore the roots of climate chaos, how people are affected unequally, and what we can do about it.

FEATURED LESSON
How Red Lines Built White Wealth: A Lesson on Housing Segregation in the 20th Century

This week, we feature our lesson about redlining and housing segregation. It introduces students to the 20th-century housing policies that bankrolled white capital accumulation while halting Black social mobility ---- and contributed to the injustice of the modern wealth gap.

The mixer lesson by Ursula Wolfe-Rocca is based on Richard Rothstein's book, The Color of Law , which shows how government policies segregated every major city in the United States with dire consequences for African Americans.
