Our 2017 Boston Marathon Team
Crosses the Finish Line

We are so proud of the eight members of this year's "Miles & Memories" Boston Marathon team: Alex Ebling, John Fleming, Jared Huber, James O'Leary, Tim O'Brien, Shane Richardson, John Shea, and Antonio Willis-Berry. All eight runners crossed the finish line on Marathon Monday!

Collectively our 2017 marathon team raised over $131,000 to support TCR. That's well above their $90,000 fundraising goal!

We are so grateful to each of our runners and to our two volunteer coaches, Crissy Straub and Malinda Dublin of MC Coaching, for their commitment to grieving children, teens, and families.

You Are Not Alone:
Grieving on Mother's Day

From early April, it seems like the card and gift business is about how to make Mom feel special on her big day. Children are asked to make cards or friends on Facebook begin sharing old photos early and often.

If you are a mother who is grieving for a child who has died, or if you are a child who is grieving for his or her mother, the conversations and feelings around Mother's Day can be overwhelming. First and foremost, it's important to actually pause and recognize that Mother's Day can bring up a variety of different feelings if you are grieving the death of someone important to you. Some of those feelings will conflict directly with feelings you had just minutes ago--and that's okay.

For those who are grieving, Mother's Day can be a difficult time, but we at TCR are here to remind you: you are not alone.

Congratulations to Colleen Shannon!

Congratulations to Colleen Shannon, our Associate Program Director - Youth & Community Outreach!

Colleen was recently honored as an Emerging Leader by the National Association of Social Workers Massachusetts Chapter for her work in childhood bereavement. We are so thankful to have Colleen's skills, passion for advocacy, and warm personality on our staff at The Children's Room.

Congratulations, Colleen!

Upcoming TCR Teen Program Event:
TCR Teen Outdoor Adventure

We hope you'll join us for this FREE event just for teens!

Saturday, May 20th
12:00 pm - 7:30 pm

No previous climbing experience necessary!  All you need to bring is a sense of adventure, a bit of humor, and willingness to work alongside others!

Teens will try out a variety of courses, as they experience cooperative games, team-related tasks, and low ropes obstacles, working together to climb close to the ground.  Participants will also have the opportunity to ascend or cross high ropes elements set among the trees, with teammates available for support and encouragement.

Trained staff from MetroWest YMCA's Family Outdoor Center will facilitate the activities and oversee the use of a safety harness system for the high ropes course.

This  FREE event will include lunch at TCR and MetroWest YMCA staff facilitation of the ropes courses.  Transportation to and from Hopkinton will be provided by TCR.

The event is free, but registration is required to attend.

Camps and Programs 2017:
Supporting Grieving Children & Teens in the Summer

It's hard to believe, but summer is right around the corner, and so many of us are busy making plans for the coming months.

We hope you find this resource page helpful as you support the children and teens in your life.

It's National Volunteer Week!
Sending Warm Thanks To All Of Our Volunteers

In case you missed it, April is National Volunteer Month, and April 23 through April 29 is National Volunteer Week

We send heartfelt thanks to each of our volunteers, who contribute to TCR in so many different ways. Every day volunteers help us fulfill our mission of creating safe, supportive communities so that no child, teen, or family has to grieve alone. We could never do our work without their generous choice to give of their time and talents.

Thank you, volunteers!

Our Heartfelt Thanks
to Julia Estrela

Warm thanks to Julia Estrela for hosting a LuLaRoe event to benefit The Children's Room! For those who don't know, LuLaRoe makes comfortable, reasonably priced clothing for women.

Twenty percent of the profits from this event's sales went directly to supporting the children, teens, and families served by The Children's Room. Everyone who attended had a wonderful time, and the event raised over $500!

Thank you, Julia!
