How Will You Teach About the 15th Amendment in 2020?

The Zinn Education Project is preparing to distribute mini-grants to teachers as part of our Teach Reconstruction Campaign.

These grants will provide teachers with funding for resources, speakers, field trips, and more to help students study and commemorate the 150th anniversary of the 15th Amendment, which states:

The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

With 2020 also an election year, it is a perfect time to teach Reconstruction's legacy through the 15th Amendment and engage students in activities to defend voting rights today.

You can help shape our upcoming mini-grant program by filling out a short survey, where you may (briefly) tell us what you plan to do and what you aspire to do.

In appreciation for your time, we will send you a book, A Short History of Reconstruction by Eric Foner, or five copies of the New York Times 1619 Project issue (your pick).

Please email us if you have any questions or wish to offer additional information.

Sincerely,

Katie Orr
