Fifth grade music students at Peculiar Elementary are producing an audio podcast called "Music Movers!"

Music Teacher Katie Schork is working with the students, who are on teams to handle different aspects of the process, including preparation, production, set-up, and editing. Students were given the opportunity to choose to participate.

The podcast project is a first for Schork. "I have never done anything like this before!," she said. "It's been a fun learning adventure!"

Schork received a $500 grant from the Missouri Retired Teachers Foundation to help purchase equipment to create the podcast. The grant was among 101 classroom grants awarded during August across the state.

Students selected the name for the podcast, which focuses on "essential questions" in the music classroom. The first episode considers the question "Does a performance have to be public to be meaningful?"  Listen here:  first episode . (under 3 minutes)

Junior Brooke Law recognized at annual banquet for bowling success
RPHS Junior Brooke Law
Sixteen-year-old Brooke Law's  success in bowling makes her a top contender in local, state, and national tournaments.

The Ray-Pec High School Junior  is a 4-time Missouri State Pepsi champion in two divisions (U15/U17), and this year placed 31st at the national Junior Gold U17 Tournament. Earlier this year, on Feb. 2, 2019, she bowled a perfect game (300).

She added to her lengthy bowling resume with more awards at the Oct. 20 Hall of Fame Banquet for the Greater Kansas City USBC (U.S. Bowling Congress):
  • 2019 Youth Scholarship Winner
  • 2019 Youth Female High Average Winner
  • 2019 Willie Pollard Youth Bowler of the Year
Three times, she has been named the Greater Kansas City USBC Youth Female Bowler of the Year. This year marks the second time for her to be honored as the Youth Female High Average Winner.

At the moment, Brooke Law is focused on softball. She plays third base for the Ray-Pec High School Panthers, who are competing in the tournament for the state championship. Ray-Pec plays Kickapoo at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, in the quarterfinals.

But when softball season is over, she will return to competing in her other sport: bowling. Read more. #peopleofraypec
