FALL BREAK - No School. Enjoy!
The CCA Board has been working to enhance CCA's Non-Negotiables to provide more clarity for the CCA community. As times change, we want to be sure that CCA's Non-Negotiables are clear, accurate and administered. Click here ( https://tinyurl.com/y24t2z77) to view a marked up copy of the Non-Negotiables showing the suggested changes to the 2000 Non-Negotiables. Please review and if you have any questions or feedback on these changes, but were unable to attend the Governance meeting on October 4th, you can email the Governance Chair, Hester Parrot ( hparrot@cherrycreekacademy.org ).  The Governance Committee is planning to ask the CCA Board to consider adoption of the updated Non-Negotiables at tomorrow, October 9 th 's CCA Board meeting.
On Friday, October 11th at 7:15 a.m., CCA will honor the following four staff members for their incredible service at CCA: Jan Koenig (15 years), Janet Barber (10 years), Hethyr Fouse (5 years), and Andrew Loomis (5 years). Please join us for a light breakfast and coffee to celebrate them.
Students will also participate in Service Day on Friday, October 11th. That means that all of our classes will be engaged in a service activity to reinforce CCA's values and put them into action by giving to our surrounding communities. Please click here for additional details including Friday's dress code and information about lunches.

Please note, if your child has a cold or is feeling under the weather, they will not be visiting retirement homes or daycare facilities with their class if scheduled, but will participate in alternative Service Day activities. If you have any questions please email Mrs. MacFarland at mmacfarland@cherrycreekacademy.org.
Champions is offering child care at CCA during Fall Break (October 14- 18). Please click here for more information. If you have questions, please contact Laney Peterson at ch002025@discoverchampions.com.
Please make sure that you have selected your preferred choice for inclusion in the CCA Directory in your CCSD Parent Forms at my.cherrycreekschools.org by October 11, 2019.

The CCA Student Directory will be digital again this year. It will be emailed to the addresses provided in your CCSD Parent Forms. There will also be a printer friendly version for any families that would like to print a physical copy.

You may select individual preferences for each Guardian in both Households 1 and 2. If all guardians choose not to have their household information published, your student's name will not be included in the directory.

Fall is officially here and we’ve gotten a taste of cooler weather. Please ensure that you child(ren) are dressed for the weather and have jackets and gloves if necessary. Please remember, students will be outside for recess unless it is actively snowing or raining or the temperature is below 21͒F.
Important Information from CCA's Technology Department
We are a couple of months into our first school year with full 1:1 Chromebooks and they are being well-utilized! In our upper grades for math, students can now easily access their Saxon math book online meaning they don’t have to carry the heavy textbook to class or home for homework, unless they prefer to use that. In our classes that use Google Classroom, students can start their work (such as writing a paper) in the classroom and easily finish and turn it in at home on the same device. Elementary classrooms are using devices to support their education in a similar format to last year with the added benefit of having a device assigned individually so they only need to enter their password each time they open it rather than completely log in, which they value.

We have recently learned a few students are ‘sneak playing’ games through sites.goolge.com when they are supposed to be doing classwork. We are addressing it here by talking to the students and creating a teaching moment to help them learn they need to be responsible and trustworthy by remaining on the specified task. In addition to this, we are blocking those links as we find them so they will be inaccessible on their Chromebooks.

As a reminder, you are able to view their web activity through your parent Securly app. If you did not receive that information through your email at the start of the year and would like it, please email Hethyr Fouse, the Technology and Assessment Director These sites won’t appear as gaming sites when you look in their web history; they show only as sites.google.com . There are valid educational reasons for some of these visits, such as viewing teacher webpages or a technology class project (likely marked private). To see what site they visited click the 3 dots to the right of sites.google.com within their history, and then click “Visit this website”. It will take you to their landing page (where they first accessed the site).

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Hethyr Fouse, the Technology and Assessment Director or Dave Loomis, the Dean of Students .
More News from CCA
One of the best parts of our school is the focus on character education. Our teachers, our leaders, our parents, and especially our students all contribute to CCA's value rich community.

During the 19-20 school year, Cherry Creek Academy's social media platforms ( Facebook , Instagram , and Twitter ) will feature the Cherry Creek Academy Value Project, a campaign that focuses on our vision of “ Building Our Future of Academic Excellence in a Value Rich Community ” and the eight values listed in our mission statement. For more information on the Value Project and to find out how you can be part of it, please click here .

This month our social media will focus on the value of leadership. At CCA, leadership means that we represent CCA in a positive way, lead by example, act as a positive role model, and bring out the best in others. Be sure to visit our social media platforms to see posts highlighting how our community shows leadership this month. You can also enjoy a sneak peak below.
Last year Genna U. and her friends in Mrs. Wolf's 3rd grade class decided they wanted to help support Children's Hospital. They approached Dr. Schultz and came up with a plan to sell items during Parent Teacher Conferences and give the proceeds to those in need. This year, Genna is still excited about fundraising and is now participating in a campaign for Make a Wish Colorado and Fairy Tale Experiences. To help Genna lead the way and support those less fortunate, please click here.
Lukas M., one of our awesome 3rd graders, loves helping Mr. Michael, CCA's Building Manager. If it was up to Lukas, he'd spend all day helping Mr. Michael make sure CCA is always in tip-top-shape. Of course Lukas has to be in his classes though, so he settles for helping out during recess. Lukas' actions show many of CCA's values, including leadership by helping ensure our school building is always in good working order.
CCA 5th graders are also working on leading the way to renewable energy sources. This week they tested different designs for solar water heaters.
Mrs. Sandler and Mrs. Shepperd would like to acknowledge the students who are sitting at the top of the leaderboard for fastest typing skills!
