OPEN HOUSE & ALL-SCHOOL SHOWCASE IS SATURDAY
Please join us from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, November 9, for this family-friendly afternoon
featuring robotics, science demonstrations, art, live music and dance, campus tours, global food, and more.
Entertainment includes
Pikes Peak Highlanders
with bagpipe and drum performances, student music, and the CSS Pep Band. The Reminders,
who play worldwide and recently released their third studio album, will perform for the second year in a row; the hip-hop duo is made up of husband-and-wife team Big Samir and Aja Black, whose three children attend CSS.
Our teachers will offer hands-on activities and demonstrations for all ages, including Big Blue Blocks, Physics of Sound, Adopt-a-Crop Planting, Science "Toys," STEM Marshmallow and Tower Challenge, the Written Word, and "La Memoire" French Game. Complete a bingo card by exploring a variety of stations throughout the day for a chance to win a mini sphero, a weighted blanket, The Kindness Diaries three-book set, and a 1,500-piece LEGO set.
The menu features foods from countries where our international students are from, including
chicken egg rolls (China), samosas (India), pancit (Philippines), käsespätzle (Germany), tortilla Española (Spain), beef taquitos (Mexico), and mochi (Japan).
The Open House & All-School Showcase is for you and your friends. Neighbors, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins are invited too. Current families may check out what their child is doing in class, walk down memory lane by visiting a previous classroom, or pop in to meet future teachers. There is something for everyone!

HEAD OF SCHOOL SEARCH PROCESS BEGINS
Head of School Aaron Schubach shares heartfelt sentiments for CSS as he announces his next career step. The 2019-2020 school year will be his final year leading CSS. Board President Pio Hocate outlines inclusive Head of School search plans.
The CSS Board of Trustees has hired Educational Directions (EduDx), a leading and highly recommended school search firm for independent schools, to help us in this process. Two parent forums will be held next week when the search committee visits campus:
- Thursday, November 14, at 6:30 p.m. in the Trianon
- Friday, November 15, at 8:15 a.m. in the Louisa Performing Arts Center

Pilgrim and Wampanoag STEAM Challenges
- 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Early Childhood Center
- $40 per child, $30 for a sibling
We'll learn about the Wampanoag people and how to make a bow, mishoon, and a wetu. We'll discover the tools and homes of Pilgrims, then make and eat food that they ate! Art activities and cootie catchers will be available to children.

GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL HEADED TO REGIONAL TOURNAMENT
After winning the Crowley County Tournament last weekend, the girls' varsity volleyball team heads to the Region 8 Tournament on Friday, November 8. The #29 Kodiaks will play against host #8 Fowler at 2:00 p.m. for the first round. Immediately following this game, the Kodiaks will play #17 Sanford at 4:00 p.m.
Fowler and Sanford meet up for the final Regional game at 6:00 p.m. To advance to the 12-team State Tournament next weekend, a team must win both games to advance out of each of the 12 districts.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY'S CARE AND SHARE FOOD DRIVE
National Honor Society is hosting a Care and Share Harvest of Love Food Drive at our school! All divisions are invited to participate. Our food drive will run from
October 28 through November 21.
Anyone is invited to bring nonperishable food items to donate, including but not limited to canned fruits, vegetables, and meats, peanut butter, cereals and oatmeals, and other canned, dry, or dehydrated items.
- Children's School collection bin is in the lobby of the CAC and ECC
- Middle School bin is in the rotunda
- Upper School students can leave food in their sponsor's classroom
Children's School will be competing against Middle School, and the Upper School classes will be competing against each other; whoever brings in the most food items will win a prize!

Find a place to put your talents, whether as auction solicitor, class creation coordinator, sponsorship guru, decor and design leader, or in other areas. Connect with parents and grandparents across grade levels to plan our largest fundraising event of the year. Last year's event raised more than $130,000 for student-centered learning.

STUDENTS COMPETE IN COLORADO MATHEMATICS LEAGUE
About two dozen Upper School students in Jeff Calhoun's math class have been participating in Colorado Mathematics League by taking monthly tests that have a time limit of 30 minutes. The top five scores are submitted to the Math League.

PREKINDERGARTEN COLLECTING MARKERS TO RECYCLE
Even our youngest students learn valuable lessons and enjoy a sense of pride through service! PreK students are leading a
Crayola Marker Recycling Project. Their bright yellow collection boxes are located inside the front door of the Early Childhood Center (ECC) and the Children's Academic Center (CAC). Have dried-out markers? Save them up and drop them off.
