Congratulations to NAMIC executive committee board member and ELDP Class VIII alumnus  James L. Anderson  for being honored as this year's NAMIC-Atlanta Mae Douglas Award recipient. For the past decade, NAMIC-Atlanta has highlighted leaders who have made significant contributions to employees within the Communications industry and the NAMIC-Atlanta chapter. Anderson will be honored during NAMIC-Atlanta's Mae Douglas Leadership Awards dinner on October 30, 2018 from 6PM - 8PM at Cox Communications.

MIP exists to close the nonprofit racial leadership gap by developing pathways to leadership for people of color while helping community organizations become structurally and systematically diverse. NAMIC announced the roster for Class XVIII of its Executive Leadership Development Program (ELDP). ELDP Class XVIII is the seventh cohort being presented in partnership with the University of Virginia Darden School of Business. 
NCTA
After successfully serving as interim director of the Walter Kaitz Foundation since April 2018, Michelle Ray has been elevated to the role of Executive Director effective immediately, NCTA President & CEO Michael Powell announced today. Ray was named interim director this past spring when former executive director Dr. David Porter, Jr. announced his departure from the Foundation.

The Washington Post
California's new law requiring public corporate boards to include women is a necessary wake-up call for all companies. The rule will finally bring the 26 percent of California's 445 publicly traded companies with all-male boards out of the Dark Ages.

Black Enterprise
One panel discussion, titled CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion, focused on fostering D&I solutions within corporate culture. During the discussion, the panelists addressed a wide range of issues, including gender inequality, Charlottesville, LGBTQ rights, and implicit bias. The only problem, however, was the blatant lack of ethnic diversity among the all-white panel.

The New York Times
G.F.S., as it is often called, has been around since 2000, when it was established as an after-school summer program in the Bronx aimed at minority students. It has developed into a 30-month curriculum with programs in New York, Los Angeles and London. Fellows receive 1,000 hours of instruction in screenwriting, film production, animation and movie history.

The Hollywood Reporter
The project comes from Jason Kim, a producer on HBO's Barry who has also worked on Girls and Netflix's Love, and actress and writer Greta Lee (Chance, Inside Amy Schumer). It is described as a dark comedy about the eccentric Los Angeles neighborhood of Koreatown and the kingpin family at the center of it.

From Paris Is Burning (1990): this documentary takes a look at the New York ball culture of the late '80s to The Happy Prince (2018): this film follows Rupert Everett as the witty and flamboyant author, Oscar Wilde in the last days of his life, check out these titles during LGBT History Month.

The television and film industries have begun to recognize the value and appeal of Hispanic television, but executives speaking at the Hispanic TV Summit say that there needs to be a greater Hispanic presence both in front of and behind the camera.

Rates of social media usage are increasing, especially among U.S. Spanish speakers. According to Viant research, 50% of Hispanic millennial shoppers report either discussing a brand online or using a brand's hashtag - significantly more than the 17% of the general population that does the same.

In case you haven't heard, the buying power of Asian Americans could reach $1.3 trillion by 2022, according to this year's Multicultural Economy report from the University of Georgia. And the hit film Crazy Rich Asians, which has earned the title of highest-grossing romantic comedy, helped further focus the marketing industry's searchlight on this group.
