A Year of Prayer at St. Josaphat
As a new Pastor, I spent my first year at St. Josaphat learning how the parish operates, how we celebrate liturgies and events in the life of the parish and I did my best to keep things running as smoothly as possible. Now that I have a year under my belt, I have been working with the parish staff to discern where we should focus our energies this year as we strive to lead people closer to Jesus Christ. It became very clear to us that what is needed right now at St. Josaphat is a year dedicated to prayer.
After spending nearly three years with Jesus, the Apostles themselves felt a need to learn more about prayer so they asked him,
"Lord, teach us how to pray, as John taught his disciples." (Luke 11:1)
Prayer is something I think we all want to get better at. It is, afterall, the main way we communicate with God.
Consequently, this year we are going to focus on teaching you different forms of prayer, spiritual practices, devotions, as well as provide you with opportunities to pray together as a community outside of Mass. Our goal is to assist you in deepening your relationship with Jesus and expanding your spiritual resources when it comes to how you pray.
Keep an eye on the bulletin and our weekly email, JosaFAST, each week. We will be featuring articles on prayer and will be inviting you to participate in different prayer events each month. Please invite your friends and family to join you!
Hopefully, by this time next year, we will all feel closer to Jesus and have a better understanding of how God is working in our lives.
God Bless,
Fr. Francis
