Celebrating the 45th Annivesary of the Murray Women's Golf Club

The Murray Women's 45th Anniversary Celebration will be on Tuesday, August 19, 3:00 pm at the Murray Golf Course

Leading up to the event, here is a look at a signature hole at the Murray GC ....

Hole # 4  written by Paul Schatz, PGA of SK Professional

The Murray Golf Course signature hole is the par 3 fourth hole. The hole ranges from 156 yards at the forward tees to 184 yards from the championship tees. The hole lies over a valley creating an elevated tee box and an elevated green. The valley design gives the appearance that the hole is downhill but in reality the hole plays slightly uphill. The beauty of the hole comes from four features that outline the hole: out of bounds to the right, water hazard and bunker short, left and long is guarded by trees and willow bushes. Once you reach the green the challenge is not over as the green slopes from back right to front left with a false front causing extremely fast putts if you are behind the hole. WARNING watch out for the front left pin location as putts hit too hard from above the pin may end up off the green.

$25,000 Hole-in-One Won at Great Plains College Golf Tournament

BIGGAR, SK:

The team of four golfers didn't believe it at first.

"That didn't just land on the green and roll in?" they said after Greg Love teed off from the ninth Hole at the Biggar

Golf course. "He couldn't have gotten a hole-in-one," they muttered. Soon after, the official determined that it had in

fact been a hole-in-one and Love threw his hands up in a victory celebration. However, the celebrations couldn't start

too soon, first the team had to finish their eighteen holes and the appropriate paper work needed to be filed.

The golfers participated in the 2nd annual Great Plains College Charity Golf Tournament, which took place on Friday,

June 20. There was hole-in-one prize on each one of the nine par-3 holes ranging from cash to cars. The hole-in-one

prize on the ninth hole was sponsored by the Biggar & District Credit Union for $25,000.

"We are beyond ecstatic to present Greg with this cheque for $25,000," said Cindy Keith, Great Plains College

program coordinator when she presented Love with his winnings on July 25. "We know the golfers had a blast

helping us raise funds to support our scholarship fund, but it is even more exciting for us to award him this prize."

"We couldn't have hosted this tournament without the outstanding support of the tournament sponsors or the Bigger

Golf Club," she added.

In total, the community helped raise nearly $5,000 to be contributed to the Great Plans College one-of-a-kind

scholarship fund. All students in a full-time student loan-eligible program - provided they apply by the registration

deadline - will receive a minimum scholarship of $500 from Great Plains College.

"Events such as the golf tournament are just one of the ways that people in the area help us to change the lives of

students by helping them attain an education," said Carrie Voysey, Great Plains College interim director of

development.

Each year Great Plains College provides students with more than $250,000 in scholarships and awards.
