Mark Thomas
With The Alley Chicago closing on October 31st, we wanted to pay homage to Mark Thomas and
The Alley (3211 N. Clark).
A little history: Mark Thomas had a love for entrepreneurship and rock music beginning at a young age. At 17 years old, 37 years ago, Mark purchased a $1725 cashier check with money that was supposed to be for college. With that money, he purchased a jewelry casting business from a man named Ed Johnson. He started his business selling pieces out of the trunk of his car, doing anything he could do to be a successful business owner.
In Lakeview East for over 30 years, Mark and his family have dedicated themselves to making the community an amazing place to be. Mark has served on many community boards throughout Lakeview East and Chicago in his time here. His young dreams of becoming a successful business owner came true as he went on to found
The Alley,
Taboo Tabou,
The Music Factory,
The Art Colony,
Blue Havana, and more.
The Alley specifically has been a go-to in Lakeview East since its inception. Rockers all around the city and the Midwest have considered The Alley one of their staple places for all things punk and goth leather and accessories.
We are incredibly sad to see The Alley leaving the neighborhood. Make sure to stop by before October 31st to see Mark and buy some great accessories to remember The Alley by! You can still support the Thomas family by supporting their other businesses like local favorite
Taboo Tabou.
Thank you Mark for 30+ years. We'll miss you but will forever remember The Alley and its legacy!
