Council Discusses Undergrounding Road 'Chicanes'

Town Engineer Patricia Strayer told members of the Town Council Tuesday that there are three streets remaining in the north end where the town was unable to secure homeowners' permission to install undergrounding transformers on their properties.

If no homeowner in those locations will allow a transformer, then the town will have to extend out a section of the curb into the road and place the transformer there, she said. The piece of curb that extends into the roadway is called a chicane and narrows the road to one-lane at that spot.

Undergrounding South of Sloan's Curve Scheduled to 'Energize' in Spring, 2019

The Citizens Association is reporting that the Undergrounding Project south of Sloan's Curve, including Ibis Isle, is on schedule, under budget, and will 'energize' in late March to early April of next year.

Examination of Employee Benefits Moves Forward

The town is marching ahead with a study of how its employee pay and benefits compares to that of other municipalities.
The Town Council on Tuesday approved a contract with Evergreen Solutions to conduct the survey over the next four months, at a cost of $32,500 to $40,000. The firm will examine between 60 and 70 of the town's 133 job classifications, then report its findings and alternatives for remedying any areas where the town has slipped behind its competitors.

Royal Poinciana Chapel Replaced the Seawall Along Lake Worth Lagoon

The Royal Poinciana Chapel is replacing the sea wall that runs along the Lake Worth Lagoon at the west end of its property. Hurricane Irma damaged the sea wall last year and it needed to be replaced, said the Rev. Dr. Aaron Janklow.

RED TIDE
Update on the Red Tide Conditions in the Town of Palm Beach

The most recent testing of the waters off the Coast of Palm Beach County shows reduced concentrations of the microorganism Karenia brevis that causes Florida Red Tide.
The Town's beaches are open at this time, and reduced levels of red tide are expected to continue through the remainder of the week.

Despite Red Tide, Mostly Business as Usual for Local Economy

A week after red tide noxious odors arrived on the shores of Palm Beach County, local businesses are themselves beginning to feel its effect. This week alone, two groups have canceled on Mad Son Fishing charter owner George Bradbury, who operates out of the Lake Park Harbor Marina. It was too rough for a group from Georgia to go out Wednesday as scheduled, so he suggested the visitors wait and see what conditions were like Thursday. They decided to go home instead.
