Wildfire Risk Assessment Qualification Course and Assessment
November 14-15, 2018 in College Station

The threat wildfire poses to residents of Texas increases everyday as more people move into once natural areas. We know that it is not a question of if a fire will start, but when.

As an ISA Certified Arborist, have you considered how your skills and experience can improve the safety and quality of tree care to protect Texans and ecosystems from wildfire? By taking the Wildfire Risk Assessment Qualification course, you will become more knowledgeable about how to evaluate and mitigate property from the threat wildfire poses.

2018 Texas Tree Conference, Academy, Trade Show and Tree Schools
September 26-28, 2018
Another record breaker!

Thanks for helping us to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Texas Chapter - we had record attendance with over 1,000 attendees. There were world class speakers for Commercial, Municipal and Utility arborists tracks with plenty of time to socialize and play the Tree ID Quest with the exhibitors at the sold-out trade show. The Wednesday evening social was a hit at the Dr. Pepper Museum. This year there was also a new Texas Tree Conference app for phones to keep everyone up on what was going on at the conference.

At the awards banquet, Mark Bird  was honored  as the Texas Arborist of the Year and Misti Perez and Michael Sultan as Volunteers of the Year.

Thanks to Emily King, the 2018 Texas Tree Conference Chair and her dedicated team of volunteers!

Speaker presentations will be up soon on at www.ISATexas.com

See you in Waco next September 25-27, 2019

Proposed New Dallas Tree Regulations Spark Homebuilder Opposition
Trees in the news

Proposed Dallas regulations that could forbid removing trees from home owners' back yards are the target of opposition from the Homebuilders Association of Greater Dallas.

The Neighborhood Forest Overlay (NFO) plan, making its way through City Hall, is an additional step beyond tougher tree regulations already approved by the Dallas City Council in May.  NFO would be an optional step neighborhoods could take to retain trees. Supporters hope to reduce clear cutting that sometimes occurs when small older homes are demolished to make way for larger new homes.

New homes are replacing older homes now in many established Dallas neighborhoods with big trees.

Big Storm-Big City-Big Mess
Typhoon Mangkhut havoc in Hong Kong

Recently, Mangkhut, the city's strongest typhoon on record, slammed into Hong Kong, activating the highest tier No 10 warning signal. The monster storm wreaked havoc - buildings swayed, windows were smashed and transport came to a standstill.

The clean-up in the aftermath of Mangkhut looks to be a long one, with more than 17,00 trees uprooted across the city, 1,000 of roads blocked and billions in infrastructure damage.
