The 2018 Climate Survey is just around the corner. The parent portion of the survey began this week during parent teacher conferences. The community, staff, and student portion will start next week on October 15th. This is a great opportunity for all USD 253 stakeholders to share their views on Emporia Public Schools. Patron Insight, a third-party confidential firm will be conducting the survey.

Board News:
Board Approvals:
- participation in the National Clean Diesel Rebate Program 2018 School Bus Replacement and Retrofit Funding Opportunity

- HTK Architects to begin the process to start preparing bid documents to secure main entrances

Board Study Session:
The team from HTK Architects facilitated a work session with board members that mirrored the listening sessions that have been taking place in all of the district buildings. Board members were given the opportunity to share their views on district strengths, facility expectations, facility concerns or deficiencies, aspirations for the future, and a discussion on district goals.
HTK representative shared the commonalities between what has been discussed in the buildings by parents and community stakeholders and also reviewed the next steps in the needs assessment process. Next steps and timeline include:
1. Complete remaining community listening sessions - beginning of November
2. Develop list of needs - October/November
3. Draft facility assessment findings - December
4. Present information gathered with the Board of Education - work session in January
The final portion of the presentation addressed main entrance security and what can be done with the grant dollars the district has received to provide better security to the front entrances of each of our schools. Each school has one of different needs but can be categorized into two phases of security based on its entrance structure.
