U.S. and India Conclude Joint Military Training Exercise


In another important example of U.S.-India strategic cooperation, personnel from the U.S. and Indian armies gained from each other's experience in various fields of operation during the annual two-week-long Yudh Abhyas joint military exercise in Uttarakhand, a senior U.S. Army official said.


 
Digital India: Govt. Climbs Global Rankings in E-Payment Adoption

The Indian Government's adoption of e-payments has climbed to 28th from 36th in the global rankings, according to a survey, another sign of the steady progress being made under Prime Minister Modi's Digital India initiative.



 
Govt. Eyeing 100% FDI in Insurance Broking Sector

The Government is looking at allowing 100 percent foreign direct investment (FDI) in insurance broking. A committee comprising senior officials from finance ministry and department of industrial policy and promotion will review the idea, a senior Government official said.

Prime Minister Modi is all set to lay the foundation stone of a Rail Coach Refurbishing Karkhana at Sonepat in Haryana, today during his visit to the state. The Rail Coach Refurbishing Karkhana is being established under Modi Government's ambitious Make in India initiative.

Indian-Born Harvard Professor Gopinath Will be IMF's 1st Female Chief Economist

India-born Gita Gopinath has been appointed chief economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), becoming the first woman to hold the position. "Gita is one of the world's outstanding economists, with impeccable academic credentials, a proven track record of intellectual leadership, and extensive international experience," said Christine Lagarde, the IMF's managing director.


 
The Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), the U.S. government's development finance arm, is keen to expand its presence in India and partner the world's largest democracy as a "key anchor" of the Trump administration's Indo-Pacific strategy, a top visiting official said.


The Trump administration is building new and stronger bonds with countries such as India to advance its vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific, U.S. Vice President Mike Pence said. The U.S. recently renamed its oldest and largest military command -- the Pacific Command -- to the Indo-Pacific Command, in a symbolic move to signal India's importance. 



"The leadership of Narendra Modi and the Indian government has played an important role in improving sanitation. Now is the time to build on the success of Swachh Bharat," Bill Gates tweeted.



Rep. Wilson writes: " The citizens of America and India cherish the same values and independent freedoms, and the United States-India Enhanced Cooperation Act will strengthen this important alliance."
