The Village of Bald Head Island just sent out an announcement about a disruption of the BHI ferry service on Thursday, March 29, 2018.
Below is the message in its entirety:
Dear Residents, Property Owners and Friends:
On behalf of BHI Transportation, the following information below is being provided to update folks on expected ferry service disruption for tomorrow morning:
Ferry Service Disruption
The North Carolina State Ports Authority expects a shipment of cranes arriving by ship on Thursday, 29 March 2018. Due to the size and complexity of this shipment, the U.S. Coast Guard intends to restrict all vessel traffic in the Cape Fear River during the ships transit from the sea buoy to the port in Wilmington. Bald Head Island Transportation, Inc. has received permission to continue ferry operations until such time as the ship is passing through our immediate vicinity. This will minimize disruptions to our ferry schedule, however we can expect one or two runs to be effected.
The ship plans to be inbound at the sea buoy at 6:45 AM. That should allow for the 7:00 Contractor to depart BHI on time, but maybe not depending on the speed the ship makes. The 7:00 and 7:30 Passenger Ferry departures will most likely be cancelled. Same for the 7:30 and 8:00 Contractor runs.
