CVNA's Seal of Distinction Program

The Cedar Valley Nonprofit Association recognizes that not all internship programs are created equally. As such, the CVNA has created a Seal of Distinction for exceptional internship programs.  This recognition is designed to give more visibility to your organization and your internship opportunities to students seeking an internship.  This program is implemented partnership with the University of Northern Iowa's Nonprofit Leadership Alliance program.   Benefits of Receiving CVNA's Seal of Distinction:   
  • Use of the CVNA's Seal of Distinction on your internship materials, websites, etc.
  • Listing on CVNA website as having a recognized internship program
  • Listing on UNI's Nonprofit Leadership Alliance Student Association's website as having a recognized internship program
  • Participation in the Nonprofit-Explor-A-Ganza event held every Spring
  • Opportunity to come to a NLA Student Association meeting to recruit interns
  • Opportunity to come to Leisure, Youth and Human Services Seminar class (where students select location for the 560 hour internship for the following semester) to recruit interns

Job Title: Jail & Prison Ministry Assistant Coordinator

Jail & Prison Ministry Assistant Coordinator  will build community relationships in order to train and provide supervision to volunteers who serve as mentors and support group members to those who have recently been released from jail or prison. This position requires travel throughout the western region of the Archdiocese in order to advocate the program and recruit clients and volunteers. This position  requires a Bachelor's degree, relevant experience in the correctional system and volunteer coordination preferred. Email resume and cover letter to  [email protected]

The Otto Schoitz Foundation is recruiting a qualified individual to serve as its full-time Coordinator.  Paid staff for the Foundation consists of the Executive Director/CEO and the Coordinator.  As a result, responsibilities of the Coordinator are varied, consisting of basic office duties along with professional grant-related functions.  See the Foundation Coordinator Position Description  here.

Request For Proposal 

E ach fall, the UNI Nonprofit Leadership Alliance Student Association requests proposals from nonprofit organizations who have a service partnership idea. Through these partnerships, groups of students provide service to our partner organizations, including assistance in planning and implementing events, delivering programs, and improving and/or developing new resources.

These partnerships not only infuse resources into the organizations but also provide our students with unique, hands-on learning experiences as they continue to broaden their understanding of the work of nonprofit organizations. National Philanthropy Day®, nationally recognized each year in November, acknowledges the entire spectrum of services provided by the nonprofit community and recognizes the profound impact that philanthropy has on the fabric of society. Volunteer Management Conference 

Join us on October 24 for a fun, engaging volunteer management conference from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm in Urbana!   Cost is $25.00 for the full day session, including lunch! $5.00 discount available if you have current volunteer opportunities posted to the VCCV's Get Connected site.  Click here to register!

Together with the United Way of East Central Iowa, the Volunteer Center of Cedar Valley will lead a hybrid volunteer management conference titled "Leading the Way, Not Managing the Day". We'll gather at Clickstop in Urbana (about 30 minutes from Waterloo) to participate in the virtual streaming event that will consist of 30-minute presentations followed by a moderated discussion with other presenters (think Ted talk meets late night tv). Questions and conversation with audience members from across the country included! Here's a rundown on the presenters:
  • Heidi Jakop, CVA, will share examples, steps, and opportunities for cultivating and empowering leadership in your volunteers and engaging a diversely talented team in her "Leading from Behind" session.  
  • Beth Steinhorn will use real-life examples and share tips on how to get a seat at the leadership table and shift from managing volunteers to instead, serving as an internal consultant to support staff from across the organization in effectively engaging and supporting volunteers. Her session is titled "Getting a Seat at the Table: How Your Peers Went from Coordinator to Director and from a Do-er to an Influencer". 
  • Angela Williamson, CVA, will bring ideas and take away points that the learner can implement that moment or the next day to either save them time, create larger capacity of volunteering in their organization, or empower them to add volunteers in their own work. Her presentation is titled "How I've Learned to Lead My Way and Take Charge of My Day".
