Experience the Battle of Bound Brook during Living History Weekend

Witness the lives of Patriots and British forces on and off the battlefield as the Abraham Staats House hosts the 241st anniversary of the Battle of Bound Brook on April 14 and 15. This annual event commemorates the April 13, 1777 surprise attack of 4,000 British Crown troops on a small American garrison of 500 troops.

Throughout the weekend, costumed reenactors will portray typical Revolutionary War soldiers, from camp settings to battle. Visit British and American camps to learn how troops prepared for battle, meet the family members who supported them, have breakfast with the troops, dance the night away Colonial-style at the Van Horne House, and more! The Staats House, headquarters to General von Steuben during the Middlebrook Encampment, will also be open for tours. Visit the event website for information on these activities and more.

Registration is open for May 3
Art of Period Trades and Crafts Conference

Want to bring authentic 18th century handicrafts and professions to your historic site but not quite sure how? The Art of Period Trades and Crafts, Crossroads' next professional development conference, is for you!

The May 3 event at East Jersey Old Town Village in Piscataway will feature presentations and workshops with experts in hearth cooking, candle making, shoe making and more! Participants will also have the chance to learn how to prepare their sites and/or themselves for live demonstrations of 18th century activities that involve permits and certifications.

Crossroads is excited to partner with the Middlesex County Office of Arts and History, Division of Historic Sites and History Services to provide this experience in the authentic early New Jersey structures at East Jersey Old Town Village. It's the latest in our series of workshops to help our Heritage Partners refine the way they present 18th century life to heritage tourists.

Registration is open now! Visit our website to reserve your place and learn more about the day's events and expert presenters.

Crossroads, Barracks featured on Good Day Philadelphia

Fox 29's morning show got a taste of Revolutionary New Jersey on March 19 as Good Day Philadelphia's "Jennie on Your Block" spent the morning at 128 West State Cafe in Trenton.

Crossroads' Janice Selinger and Kate Brindle joined historical interpreters from the Old Barracks Museum to share some of the heritage tourism opportunities for visitors just steps away from the State Capital building. The segment was one of many brief features highlighting culture, education and civic groups in the Trenton area.

Visit the Fox 29 video library to see the segment.
Heritage Partner program offers visibility, skills building and more!

Heritage Area Partners are at the core of the Crossroads of the American Revolution National Heritage Area. While each location and organization tells its own story, together they form a tapestry of experiences that make an indelible mark on our communities and neighbors.

Scores of sites and historic associations across New Jersey are already benefiting from the enhanced visibility that comes with a Heritage Area alliance. The Crossroads team is here to help, whether your site is open seven days a week or not ready to receive visitors.

This month, we're happy to announce two renewing Heritage Partners: Bergen County Historical Society and W3R-NJ Association

Could your organization benefit from affiliating with Crossroads? Contact our Program Manager, Kate Knowles-Brindle by e-mail or by phone at 609-341-3246 for more information, or visit our Heritage Partner membership webpage to join us today!
