National Women in Small Business Month

The United States has more than  11 million woman-owned small businesses, and we celebrate each and every one of them during National Women in Small Business Month in October.

Women are starting businesses five times faster than the national average, and they're making strides in leading industries like healthcare and educational services. Women of color lead the way, starting nearly eight in 10 new woman-owned businesses since 2007.

SCORE's spring 2018 "The Megaphone of Main Street" data report focuses on women entrepreneurs-their successes, financing concerns and the impact of mentoring. Take a look at the data report and corresponding infographics here:  https://www.score.org/resource/megaphone-main-street-women-entrepreneurs

We encourage you to take time to celebrate the success of your women entrepreneurial clients, colleagues, and maybe even your own! You can always check out the SCORE Field Marketing Calendar for a few ideas. We would like to recognize a few of our women mentors leading the way as well...
SCORE National Women's Committee

SCORE is very focused on providing a diverse and inclusive volunteer membership. You may already know that 58% of our small business clients are women owned businesses, a number that keeps rising. We feel strongly that we need to be available to assist, mentor and educate this client base.

SCORE volunteer Beth Shapiro leads our National Women's Committee comprised of female SCORE members from all over the US. The Committee's purpose is to help chapters recruit women, mentor women volunteers and assist in creating and executing more women focused client events.

Many thanks to the oustanding women  steering this initiative:
SCORE Chapter Women's Events

SCORE Chapters around the country host fantastic events year round, and our women's events are growing in popularity. Congratulations to SCORE Southern Maryland for hosting a very successful Women in Business: Paths to Success event on September 15.

SCORE Awards Outstanding Women Owned Business

Congratulations to the 2018 SCORE Award recipients, who were chosen based on their business success, positive community impact and strong relationship with their SCORE mentor.

The SCORE Award for Outstanding Women Owned Business went to Creative Behavior Solutions. In 2013, Brit and Adrianne Smith founded Creative Behavior Solutions, an Applied Behavior Analysis clinic that improves the social, academic and life skills of toddlers, adolescents and teens with developmental disabilities. Working with SCORE has helped them double their business each year, expand from two to 25 employees and move into a 5,000 square-foot clinic.

Celia Bell Awards

SCORE Austin held its 2nd annual Celia Bell Entrepreneur Awards event on September 24. The event, named after outstanding mentor and leader Celia Bell, recognizes nine  Austin entrepreneurial heroes who form the backbone of the Austin economy.

Pictured is winner Heidi Garbo, owner of Garbo's Lobster ATX.
