Counseling Information
Letters of Recommendation

Please make sure to fill out and return your Brag Sheet, accessible here, to Lauren.McBride@bishopmanogue.org.

Attention Seniors ! Please be aware of your college application deadlines. Any letters of recommendation that you need  from your counselor with November 1st deadlines, must be requested no later than October 18th -- No Exceptions. Your request is not complete  until you submit your brag sheet and a detailed resume to Ms. McClintock or Dr. McBride by the 18th . Please stop by one of their offices to pick up your brag sheet. The school is closed over fall break, and no emails will be answered during the break, so please plan accordingly.  Recommendation requests for November 15th deadlines are due by November 1st-no exceptions . Out of respect for your counselors, please provide them proper lead time to write your child a thoughtful letter of recommendation and also only request letters if the college/university requires one.  
PSAT

The counselors distributed practice SAT (PSAT) booklets to students on Monday. Students should utilize this resource to familiarize themselves with the format and testing procedures. Students may see their counselor to obtain a booklet if they do not have one.

The PSAT will be administered to grades 9-11 at 8:00am on Wednesday, October 16. Please arrive at 7:45am. Freshmen will report to the SCC, Juniors to the Main Gym, and Sophomores to the Small Gym. Students will be dismissed around 11:30am. We will make all attempts to start and end on time, and apologize for any potential inconvenience with a delay in dismissal time.

Partnership with Princeton Review Test Preparation

Bishop Manogue Catholic High School has partnered with Princeton Review to offer ACT and SAT test preparation services digitally and on campus at a 40% off savings. Their mission is to provide personalized tutoring, test prep, and admission products and services to help students knock down barriers and achieve their academic goals. Princeton Review is not affiliated with any of the test developers. If your child does not receive a higher score at the conclusion of the test preparation service, you will be refunded. Study Skills Counseling

Attention 9th and 10th graders: If you are interested in participating in a time management and study skills group program this semester during your miner block period on Thursdays, Ms. Koltz (one of your school counselors) will be upholding a group counseling session 2-3 times per month during Miner Block for 30 minutes (2:30-3pm).

If you are interested in being a part of the group, please contact Jessica Koltz ASAP to get the consent paperwork filled out. We will be meeting on the following dates, ALL Thursdays from 2:30-3pm in the Knowledge Center: 9/12, 9/26, 10/17, 10/31, 11/7, 11/14, 11/21, 12/5, & 12/12

Stress Management Counseling

Attention 10th graders: If you are interested in participating in an anxiety/stress management counseling group program this semester during your miner block period on Thursdays, Ms. Koltz (one of your school counselors) will be upholding a group counseling session 2-3 times per month during Miner Block for 45 minutes to 1 hour (1:30-2:15/2:30).

If you are interested in being a part of the group, please contact Jessica Koltz ASAP to get the consent paperwork filled out. If you are unable to attend more than one session, I will ask that you allow the space for another student who will be consistently available to meet with us. We will be meeting on the following dates, ALL Thursdays from 1:30-2:15/2:30 in the counseling offices: 9/12, 9/26, 10/17, 10/31, 11/7, 11/14, 11/21, 12/5, & 12/12.

Testing Update for Juniors

Students will be offered the SAT with Essay on March 6, 2020, in lieu of the ACT with Writing. Students electing to opt out of the SAT with Essay must provide Dr. McBride with a copy of his/her ACT or SAT registration print-out from the test administration they previously completed in order to satisfy this graduation requirement. All registrations must be submitted no later December 19.

Scholarships
Norwich University’s Take the Lead Scholarship

Norwich University is a private military college in Vermont, and they are looking for students
that are motivated, driven, and excited by the idea of new challenges. They want to support the
initiative of the future leaders by offering students a $2,000 Take the Lead Scholarship.
To qualify, students must:
  1. Complete the online application (it's free!)
  2. Send in supplemental materials (i.e. transcripts, etc.)
  3. Complete the FAFSA and list Norwich as one of their schools
That's it! If students complete that by December 15th, 2019 they get an additional $2,000 for
their 4 years at Norwich-- which is an additional $8,000 toward their Norwich education!
Miami University in Ohio Scholarships and Honors Program

Students will need to complete a separate application for Miami's honors programs — the Presidential Fellows Program, the University Academic Scholars Program, and the University Honors Program. Students should indicate on their application for admission that they would also like to apply for these programs, and they will receive additional communication from Miami on how to complete the process. If you think your child would be a strong candidate for the Presidential Fellows Scholarship, please encourage them to apply to Miami via the Common Application by November 1 and then complete the Honors Programs Application. When indicating their interest for the Presidential Fellows Program, students must also indicate their interest for the University Academic Scholars Program and/or University Honors Program, then complete the supplemental essay. University of Nevada Workshop Series

UNR Application Workshop on Campus: There is a UNR Application workshop hosted by the University of Nevada, Reno Office of Admissions on Tuesday, October 15 from 12:00-1:00pm in the Knowledge Center Computer Lab. If you are applying to UNR, an admission representative will help you start your application, gather your supplemental materials, and answer any questions. Do not miss this important opportunity to start the application process.

Boston University Admissions: 
Boston University will be hosting special Fall Visit Days for students and their families to learn more about Boston University. This event will include an in-depth information session, covering everything from student life to study abroad opportunities, to what makes an application competitive for admission. Guests will also tour BU's residential community in the heart of Boston, hear from faculty, and enjoy lunch in one of our dining halls. Notre Dame University 2020 Summer Programs

  • Summer Scholars: June 27 - July 11, 2020
  • A program for current high school sophomores and juniors. Students choose from 22 courses of study, ranging from STEM to liberal arts, and experience college life by living in the dorms and participating in campus activities. 
  • Leadership Seminars: July 18 - July 29, 2020
  • A 10-day program for current juniors in which the University pays for admitted students' tuition, meals, and housing. Students experience life at Notre Dame, live on campus, and study under esteemed Notre Dame faculty in this highly competitive program. 
  • Study Abroad Rome: June 6 - June 20, 2020
  • Current juniors may apply for this incredible experience of two weeks immersed in the history and culture of the Eternal City, with scholars representing a range of fields on hand to guide students in their exploration of this ancient city. 
  • Study Abroad Ireland: July 18 - August 1, 2020
  • Current juniors may apply for 12 days of adventure in Dublin and Connemara, Ireland! Guided by Notre Dame Faculty and local scholars, students embark on an exploration of Irish culture, history, and landscape.
