Greetings NENSA Community!
Hope you are enjoying these last days of August, and getting psyched for fall and the coming change of seasons. Summer may be waning, but our staff is busy planning for many wonderful fall and winter events to come! Be sure to check out our fall events calendar at the bottom of this newsletter!
Our NENSA Bag Balm Rollerski Race Series continues in Lake Placid September 15 & 16. Registration is open on
SkiReg.com
. Masters, don't be intimidated, we are looking to provide you with an awesome race experience too ~ we can't just let the juniors, colligate and senior athletes have all the fun!
September 16th is also the date for a special community meeting to be held at Prospect Mountain in Woodford Vermont. See the full invite in the box below and come check out all the exciting news about to happen at Prospect!
On
September 22 & 23
NENSA will be holding our annual fall
NENSA Coaches Symposium
.
We have several great options for that weekend, including doing the US Ski & Snowboard L200 Coaches certification. On Saturday afternoon, we are also doing a L100 coaches & masters technique clinic. This clinic will be run by Matt Whitcomb, USST Coach, who will be assisting Justin Beckwith, NENSA Competitive Program Director, Kathy Maddock, Dublin XC and Rob Bradlee, CSU juniors, to teach this clinic - 4 clinicians total so we can accommodate all ablitiites! Matt will also be our Keynote speaker at the Symposium that same evening. Registration is on
SkiReg.com.
You will have the option to sign up for the L100 clinic only, or sign up for the L100 Clinic
and
stay for dinner and the evening program. The L100 technique clinic and symposium
are open to all NENSA members
- coaches, masters and interested community members. Or sign up for the L200 coaches certification with Bryan Fish, USST Devo Coach, which includes all meals and the Saturday evening program. This is such a wonderful opportunity to take a technique clinic with our USST coaches! There is something for everyone that weekend ~ we hope you will join us!
In the last issue of KickZone, we debuted the
world premier video

BIG NEWS AT PROSPECT MOUNTAIN
After 26 years of owning and managing Prospect, Steve Whitham and Andrea Amodeo have decided it is time for the ski area to have new owners.
A local, non-profit group comprised of Prospect diehards, local business people, and the Vermont Land Trust has been working with Steve and Andrea for the past two years to facilitate a good transition.
This group – Prospect Mountain Association – intends to purchase Prospect and run it as a community cross-country ski center, much as it has been for years.
As a friend of Prospect Mountain, we would like to invite you to an informational meeting on Sunday, September 16
th
at 2:00pm at the Prospect lodge.
We’d like to share information with you about Prospect’s immediate future and how you can help. This also will be a chance for everyone to catch up with old friends, sign up as a volunteer, and to get a special discount on your season pass!
We know that almost everybody loves Prospect Mountain and that there has been a lot of concern about its future. Please join us to answer your questions and learn more about this exciting community-run effort. We are hoping for a robust turnout.
We hope to see you on the 16
th
but please be in touch if you are unable to attend and would like to be part of making this happen.
Best regards,
David Newell and Jon Cohen, on behalf of PMA
Donald Campbell, the Vermont Land Trust

SafeSport Programs
SafeSport is a national organization that provides an on-line training course (it takes about 90 minutes to complete) to ensure all coaches, volunteers or persons in authority working with youth athletes are educated on the subject of abuse (emotional and physical) in sports. Keeping our athletes safe is first and foremost on the agenda for all sport national governing bodies, including US Ski & Snowboard, and now it is federal law. This is to ensure that all athletes are protected, and coaches and volunteers are educated.
NENSA has always urged ALL New England coaches, parent volunteers, venue volunteers and anyone working with youth to take the SafeSport on-line course and get certified. NENSA has been requiring this of all our staff and volunteer coaches and wax techs at JN's and REG Camps for several years now. So please take time this summer to be sure all your club volunteers and coaches are SafeSport certified. Do it today.
The USOC provides a wide range of SafeSport resources, including
online education and awareness
. All coaches and those in a position of authority over athletes are required to take the online SafeSport course. To create an account with SafeSport, please use the following access code and follow the instructions on the SafeSport registration page.
Go to
usskiandsnowboard.org
, scrool down to the bottom of the home page, and under Governance, click on the
SafeSport
link.
