Team Building

Team building with students can help them develop their ability to work together toward a common goal.  Solving a challenge together as a team can create a positive experience and everyone in the group wins.  It is important to emphasize to the students it is about cooperation and collaboration, not competition, when it comes to team building activities.  Being part of a team is an important skill to learn and can bring positive action in school, work, and the community.

The following skills can be developed from conducting team building activities:

  • Problem solving
  • Communication
  • Cooperation
  • Listening
  • Self-esteem
  • Idea exchange
  • Working with others and different groups
  • Leadership
  • Creative thinking

After each team building activity discuss some of the following questions with the group:

  • How well did your team work together?
  • How can we improve this?
  • How well did the group communicate?
  • What did you learn from this activity?

Back to Back

Pair up team members by height.  Ask them to lock arms with their back to each other.

With their arms locked see if they can sit down, kick their legs out straight, and then stand up straight again.

If they are able to do that try it with a group of 4, then 8.
