Summit Spirit Wear Day Wednesday, October 10th!
Raven Report: Oct. 9, 2018
Fall Break: 10/11-10/15
Remember, there is no school this Thursday, October 11th through Monday, October 15th for Fall Break and a Teacher Work Day. Summit offices will be open Thursday & Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Monday.

This Wednesday, October 10th will be a Summit Spirit Wear Day. Summit students and employees may dress in their Summit Spirit Wear and jeans at no additional cost.
Service Learning Project: Stuffed Animal Collection
Each trimester, Summit students will be hosting a service learning project to benefit our local community. Early Learners (Beginners and PreK) will be kicking off this initiative and leading for first trimester. We would love for all Summit Ravens to help us with the project!

Please look through your stash of cuddly friends, and help us collect new or gently used  stuffed  animals. Donations can be made Monday, Oct. 8th - Wednesday, Oct. 10th. There will be boxes set up in The Summit lobby for all donations.

After the  drive is complete we will be sharing the  stuffed  animals with the Child Advocacy Center. The leaders of this organization are thrilled to use our donations to assist and support local children.

I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU for the awesome support of the Child Advocacy Center. As a former forensic interviewer there, I can attest to the incredible impact these stuffed animals will have. Many of the kids walk out of those interviews or exam rooms with downcast eyes and hunched shoulders, but when they realize they get to take home any stuffed animal and blanket they want, a semblance of normalcy returns to their souls and they get some of their spark back. I can even recall one young girl who, after seeing them on a shelf, asked if she could just hold one of them during her interview, and of course I said yes. She hugged it tightly for the next hour, never letting go while she recounted the terrible things she witnessed and experienced. I don't think the interview would have been nearly as productive if she didn't have that fluffy dog gripped in her white-knuckled hands.

I am so glad my daughter is part of a community of learners [at The Summit] that emphasizes service projects. Thank you so much for what you're doing!

This year's Annual Auction & Gala is a 1990s style party complete with games, music, appetizers, raffles, and silent and live auctions. Guests can show off their fly moves while gettin' jiggy with it, enjoy free wine and beer, or try their luck at the gaming tables. This party is going be all that and a bag of chips!

Calling all Summit families! SPO is looking for your donation of gift cards for our Gala gift card pull. We will accept any gift card $5 or greater. This is a great use for those gift cards you'll never use. You know the ones! Let us help you clear out your glove compartment, wallet or purse. Gift cards purchased through Scrip would be great, too. Please place any gift cards you are donating in an envelope with your name and "Gift Card Pull" on it and drop it in the SPO drop box in the school lobby. Please bring in your donations by Friday, October 19th.

Call for Male Coaches: Let Me Run, Boys Running Program

We need male coaches to start up the Let Me Run boys running program at The Summit Prep. Let Me Run is similar to the Girls on the Run program and is for boys in 4th-8th grade. We are looking for at least two volunteer male coaches to help get this program started at The Summit.

Let Me Run is much more than a running program for boys.
Our trained coaches combine exercise with fun activities and lessons to help boys learn teamwork, build relationship skills, create friendships, grow emotionally, amplify their self-esteem, empower themselves and others, and live an active lifestyle. We nurture and celebrate every aspect of what it really means to be a boy, and we let them run.
After every season, family, friends, and teachers are astounded by the transformation each boy makes. Let Me Run boys leave the program with a sense of accomplishment, a deeper belief in self, and a greater appreciation for their peers.

If you are interested in more information or the opportunity to coach Summit students through the Let Me Run program, please contact Brad Beall, Summit dad.
Reminder of The Summit Uniform Policy
Cooler weather is coming! This is a great time to check your Summit layers and review the Summit Uniform Policy, as found in The Summit Handbook:

Students are expected to look their best each day at school, including being clean and groomed. Clean, well-fitting, and good condition of wardrobes are required of students.

Students are expected to wear a uniform shirt from Land's End. Solid color, no-pocket polo shirts, turtlenecks, oxfords, sweaters, and sweatshirts with The Summit logo may be worn. Shirts must be from Land's End. All colors of shirt are acceptable. The only required shirt is a RED shirt for field trips and other events. Jumpers (navy or khaki), cardigans, and hoodies may be worn if they have the school logo. The outermost layer of clothing worn within the school must always have the school logo. All students should store in the classroom at least one cardigan, hoodie, sweatshirt, etc. with the school logo to accommodate varying temperatures in the building.
Khaki or navy pants, skorts, skirts, and shorts may be worn. Shorts and skirts must be "uniform" style products from a variety of vendors who carry such items (e.g., Old Navy, Children's Place, JCPenney, Lands' End).
Students may only wear closed-toed, closed-heeled shoes.
On Fridays, students may wear jeans with an official school spirit shirt, as approved by the Head of School
On field trips, all students are to wear their red uniform shirt. Dress code for special events such as concerts and job shadow may vary. Teachers will communicate these changes with parents.

Modifications to High School Dress Code

The following modifications of the Uniform Dress Code apply to students in grades 9-12: in addition to the apparel indicated above, high school students may wear official school spirit and event wear, including that related to athletic events, conservative cut blue jeans (excludes leggings as outer wear, jeans/pants with tears, jeans/pants that are excessively baggy/tight).
Because the image of our students is an extended image of the school, The Summit Head of School applies his/her discretion on uniform compliance.

Dress Code Adherence

Students who attend school out of dress code will be required to change into school issued items within the dress code.
