Superintendent Search Process and Timeline
At Wednesday night's governing board meeting, the board approved a timeline and hiring process for selecting the district's next superintendent. This process begins with posting the position, which happened yesterday with postings on the websites of the district, the Arizona Department of Education, and on the Arizona School Board Association.
Applications are being accepted between now and April 5th. The application process includes written responses to five questions that address important issues for the district, as well as standard things like a professional resume, letter of intent, and official application.
Between April 6th and April 10th, the application packets will be scored individually by governing board members and district and site administrators, using the same scoring rubric. On April 11th, the executive director of human resources and student services Caroline Lynch will meet with governing board president Edith Stock to discuss the applications and scores. Finalists for interviews will be identified at that time.
Finalists will interview with two committees on April 18th. One committee will be comprised of FHUSD employees and two governing board members and the other will be comprised of parents and community members and three governing board members. Between now and then, Ms. Lynch will organize the interview committees and gather, edit, and organize interview questions. As part of the process, interview committee members will identify strengths and concerns they have of each finalist. That written information will be reviewed and considered by the governing board when they meet in executive session on April 19th to discuss the candidates and select a candidate to be the district's next superintendent.
If all goes as planned, the new superintendent will be hired at the April 25th governing board meeting and will begin serving on July 1, 2018. It is my goal to do everything I can to ensure a smooth and seamless transition so the new superintendent can hit the ground running on July 1.

Patrick Sweeney, Ed.D
