Principal's Message
March 23,  2018
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP:
Spring has found the halls at OLQP full of leprechaun traps (engineering and creativity), blue ribbon science fair project boards, and pi (project based learning). Those who were able to attend the OLQP Open House and Board of Trustees' presentation were able to enjoy pie furnished by Home and School, and OLQP parents, and take a tour. It is apparent that teachers and students are always busy. The learning and products are impressive. The students who worked to memorize digits of pi are to be commended. First place went to eighth grader Tessie Thomas who was able to recite over 200 digits! My favorite observation has been watching the joy and amazement on the faces of the little ones when they come upon one of the leprechaun traps scattered throughout the building that has been "sprung."
Our Lenten journey has taken us through reflections on why we make sacrifices during Lent and why it is important to make an extra effort to live the "Golden Rule" during Lent. We have talked about receiving the sacrament of Reconciliation, examination of conscience, humbly accepting that we are not perfect, and being sorry for anything we have done that is displeasing to God. We are reminded of how much we are loved by Our Lord in a most beautiful and profound way as we pray the Stations of the Cross but never more perfectly than when our eighth grade students and their siblings dramatize this ancient prayer as they did this morning.
Know that all of us here at OLQP are committed to the formation of the whole child and work diligently to ensure the academic success and well-formed character of each of our students. Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.
Counting our Blessings...

                Pi Night Prayer
One of the academic projects that the faculty is working on with guidance from the Catholic Schools Office involves how to embed Catholic identity into the curriculum. The prayer shared by Student Council Chaplain Tessie Thomas is an example of how instruction about our Creator can flow in a very organic way from what is taught.
This is the prayer Tessie shared:
God, thank You for creating math to help us understand Your world. As in all Your creations, we see beauty. When we think of the number pi, it goes on forever just as Your love for us goes on forever. Within pi, every combination of numbers is contained just as we are contained in Your love. Father, please bless all who have helped and all who are here...Amen.

                Looking Ahead - Science Fair
Award winning science fair project boards are on display in Hawthorne Hall by the middle school science lab. If your child has not participated in science fair yet, this is an opportunity to see what it looks like. If the blue ribbon has eluded your student, this is an opportunity to see the execution of projects that were rated as first place products at the Brazoria County Science Fair.
News You Can Use...
Sad News
This year, OLQP had a new, smiling face at the front desk working the afternoon/evening shift. Receptionist Marilyn Hurt joined our staff and served the school well in the time she was here. Mrs. Hurt passed away on March 21, due to illness. Our condolences and prayers go to her family.
