Re-imagining Ford Road Final Visioning Session - Westland's Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is working on a master plan for the former City Hall site and the entire Ford Rd. corridor that will provide the framework for future development opportunities. Over the course of 4 days, residents and business owners were invited to attend sessions to share their input.  The final session will take place on Saturday, September 14 from noon to 1:00 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.  During the session we will be  r
evealing the ideas generated throughout the workshops. The basis for the Reimagined Ford Road Master Plan will be unveiled and light refreshments will be served.  

Fall Fitness Festival - In honor of Westland's Healthy City Initiative, the city and Beaumont Hospital will host their first annual Fall Fitness Festival on  Saturday, September 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Join us to learn about health and fitness opportunities in Westland.  The festival will take place at Tattan Park in the Lions Club Pavilion, located at 1901 N. Carlson St.  There will be free healthy lifestyle demonstrations, fun workouts, wellness presentations, giveaways and more.  

Battle of the Badges Charity Basketball Game - Come show your support for Westland's Hometown Heroes on  Saturday, September 15 at 1:00 p.m. at the Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center, located at 32150 Dorsey.  The Westland Police and Fire Departments will battle it out on the court and proceeds will benefit the Norwayne Harvest Festival.  There will also be raffles and a bake sale. 

Westland Library Book Sale - The Friends of the Library are holding their Fall Book Sale on Saturday, September 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, September 16 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  All proceeds will benefit the Westland Public Library, located at 6123 Central City Parkway.  

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location:

Disability Concerns
  • The meeting of the Disability Concerns Committee will take place on Monday, September 17 at 5:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.
City Council
  • The Westland City Council will meet on Monday, September 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd. 
Housing Commisssion
  • There will be a meeting of the Housing Commission on Tuesday, September 18 at 5:30 p.m. at Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center, located at 32150 Dorsey.
Zoning Board of Appeals
  • The ZBA Meeting will take place on Wedensday, September 19 at 5:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.  

All American Farmers & Artisans Market - The Westland Farmer's Market will be open on Thursday, September 20 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Farmers Market Pavilion located at 1901 N Carlson.  The Market will be open every Thursday through October. Free Bulk Drop Off Day - Westland residents can bring bulk items w/ proof of residency to the DPS yard, located at 37137 for free bulk drop off day this Saturday, September 22 from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. As a reminder, this will be our last bulk drop off day as curbside pickup was reinstated in July.  For details on acceptable items click here 

"A Day for You" Event - The Westland Police Department is hosting an event aimed at children and young adults with special needs.   T his event will consist of many different activities including interacting with police vehicles, canine demonstrations, tactical officers and equipment, and a tour of the police department. The event will take place on Saturday September 22 and the tours will be split into two different times.  The first tour will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon and is by appointment only. This tour is geared towards individuals who are sensitive to sensory stimulation, (no lights or sirens will be activated, and tour group sizes will be limited to a maximum of 20 at a time).  The second tour will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and will be open to all children and young adults with special needs, but no sensory issues, (lights and sirens may be used). 
This event will be held at the Westland Police Department located at 36701 Ford Rd
