SBE voted on the following business items:
The Board approved the core agency 2018-19 budget.
The Board approved the temporary waiver from implementation of the career- and college-ready graduation requirements for Lower Columbia College.
The Board approved the waiver due to substantial lack of classroom space for Port Townsend School District.
The Board approved initiation of rule-making on Chapter 180-17 WAC regarding Required Action Districts.
Presentations and discussions:
Vision, Mission, Values: Board members reviewed and discussed their current vision and mission, and how those could be supported by the development of Board value statements.
Update on the Required Action Workgroup: The Board engaged with staff and OSPI staff regarding a coordinated process to update the RAD model as well as potential policy options for state directed support to those districts.
High School Graduation Requirements: The Board heard from staff regarding some challenges of the current diploma framework and discussed how the Board might wish to address some of these challenges.
Student Presentation: Student Board Member Autymn Wilde presented to the Board regarding the role of assessments as a component of graduation requirements.
Strategic Plan Draft Discussion and Next Steps: The Board identified priorities for its forthcoming five-year strategic plan and the public review process before its slated adoption in November 2018.
