It’s not always easy!
I have a 5-year-old son, Jax, and a 4-year-old daughter, Juno. Kids have such a different view of the world. As much as I try to instill the rules and values grownups cherish, I try to learn from their world view as well. Sometimes I think they have more to teach me than I can teach them!
Jax learned to ride a bike without training wheels last summer. That left his little sister inherently slower than him as her training wheels rattled across the pavement on family bike rides. This summer, she had enough of being last!
We were up north one Saturday and she wanted to ride bike. Our road is gravel and training wheels are not really fit for the task. After a few tears and some convincing, Juno and I agreed to try riding without them. On her first attempt, she made it about 15 feet before wobbling to a crash in the grass on the side of the road. On her second attempt, she made it about 25 feet, and each subsequent attempt went exponentially better - although she did get her fair share of scrapes and bumps. We are now three months into riding without training wheels and she is keeping up with her big brother. Both knees and elbows are constantly scabbed over with evidence of learning a new skill, and it wasn’t easy, but not once was quitting an option.
Since learning to ride a bike, Juno has diversified into riding a scooter, skateboard, and is trying to skate…
I attribute the same concepts to project management. Every project has a learning curve to it. As we learn and grow into one project, gaining an understanding of how to best accomplish it, we can leverage that knowledge and those skills onto the next project. Every project provides a building block for the next. The unfortunate reality is that sometimes we crash and get a little scraped up along the way. As long as we get back on the bike and don’t make the same error again, we will be successful.
We look forward to staying in touch with what is keeping us busy here at Heartland Glass and as always, thank you for taking an interest in our company and our products.

PROJECT FEATURE:
Quarryview
Education Center
|
Four years ago, the former Roosevelt School on Third Street North in St. Cloud was struck by lightning and burned to the ground. The building housed the St. Cloud Area School District 742 Community Education and Early Childhood programs. Those programs now have a new home, the Quarryview Education Center, newly constructed at the Discovery site in Waite Park. General Contractor, RA Morton brought in primarily local contractors to complete the project, including Heartland Glass.
"We had a great crew on this project," said Garrity Gerber, Heartland Glass Sales Manager. "Our Project Manager was Ken Schueller, our senior project manager. The lead installers were Journeymen Jason Kramer and Nate Schindele who lead a very skilled team comprised of George Moir, Ben Voigt, Jeremiah Bailey, Evan Douvier, Travis Sand, and Pat Kennedy."
The building featured Tubelite T24650 Thermal Storefront with over 35 wide stile doors incorporating Allegion Hardware and approximately 2,200 square feet of high performance glazing: Solarban 70 XL by Vitro, fabricated by Oldcastle.
"We are glad to see this building come together for these programs under budget and with local contractors doing a majority of the work," Garrity said. "It's a great local project to be a part of."
