Explains Clinical Trial with IGF-1
Researchers at Mount Sinai, led by Dr. Alex Kolevzon, are running a clinical trial of the compound insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) for children with idiopathic autism. Dr. Kolevzon's team previously demonstrated the safety and feasibility of IGF-1 in treating Phelan-McDermid Syndrome (PMS), a single-gene form of autism. In the PMS study, the IGF-1 treatment improved symptoms of social impairment and repetitive behaviors, which are core symptoms of autism. Expanding their investigation into idiopathic autism, the researchers are working hard to make sure families can comfortably and knowledgeably participate in the clinical trial. Mahir Rahman spoke with Dr. Kolevzon about the study and where it hopes to go.

The afternoon will feature breakout sessions with professionals providing quality autism services in New York and New Jersey to people all across the spectrum.

Candidates are being considered for a half-time Research Support Specialist position in Dr. Matthew Lerner's Social Competence and Treatment Labin the Department of Psychology at Stony Brook University. This position is to facilitate NIMH R01-funded study of a multisite intervention designed to support social functioning in children and teens with and without autism spectrum disorders.

The Regulation of Emotion in ASD Adults Children and Teens (REAACT) Lab is seeking a full-time research assistant at UPMC in Pittsburgh. The position will provide support to the Autism and Developmental Disorders Inpatient Research Collaborative (ADDIRC), which is a multi-site study of psychiatric inpatients with ASD who are primarily admitted due to aggressive or self-injurious behavior.
