Alliance Mentored Coalitions Receive Federal Funding
Marking the 20 year anniversary of the Office of National Drug Control Policy's Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program grant, $90.9 million in grants were awarded to 731 local drug prevention coalitions.  This year's group represents the largest number of single-year grantees since the program's founding and two of them in SE Michigan were mentored by the Alliance of Coalitions for Healthy Communities!

The Genesee County Prevention Coalition located in Flint and the Lakes Area Community Coalition in Walled Lake will receive DFC funding for the next five years! 

The grants will provide these local community coalitions with additional funding to prevent youth substan ce use, including prescription drugs, marijuana, tobacco, and alcohol.
Many congratulations to both coalitions because together we can!

FDA declares youth vaping an epidemic, announces investigation, new enforcement

Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Scott Gottlieb on Wednesday declared youth vaping an "epidemic," and said the agency will halt sales of flavored electronic cigarettes if the major manufacturers can't prove they are doing enough to keep them out of the hands of children and teens.

YOUTH MOBILE CRISIS

Oakland County's new Youth Mobile Crisis Team launched this week. The service is available for children, youth, and young adults in crisis. The Youth Mobile Crisis Team is funded by Oakland Community Health Network (OCHN) with services provided by New Oakland Family Centers.
 
The team travels throughout Oakland County to meet youth at their home, park, or other public gatherings. The unit is for youth 0 - 21 who need help dealing with a crisis like social isolation, loss of coping skills, suicidal thoughts, self-harm or aggression, and property destruction.
 
New Oakland's Youth Mobile Crisis Team is available in Oakland County:
  • Monday - Friday, 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
  • Weekends & holidays, 1:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
The Mobile Crisis Team is not a 24-hour service.
