FAU sea turtle conservation research is featured at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) Turtle Trackers exhibit. Charles E. Schmidt College of Science Dean, Ata Sarajedini, Ph.D., welcomed guests alongside MODS CEO, Joe Cox, at the launch of the exhibit's ribbon cutting on Friday, Sept. 13. Plants and People with Maria Fadiman, Ph.D.
M aria Fadiman, Ph.D. , is an ethnobotanist who studies the relationship between plants and people, focusing on conservation and sustainability. Maria serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Geosciences and is also a National Geographic Emerging Explorer, whose studies take her all over the world.

The second annual FAU Research Showcase, hosted by the FAU Division of Research,celebrated a wide range of research and scholarly activities by both faculty and students. A number of researchers from the College of Science were featured, including Alex Keene, Ph.D., Science Dean, Ata Sarajedini, Ph.D., as well as William Hahn, Ph.D. Friend of the college, Rubin Gruber, discussed artificial intelligence on the first day of the showcase. A poster session was also part of the showcase and featured new faculty member, Vivian Merk, Ph.D., from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Congratulations to poster presentation winners from the College of Science: Shoukat Ali, Ph.D., Koray Karabina, Ph.D., and Emrah Karagoz for their research on Biometric Data Transformation for Cryptographic Domains and its Applications. Novel Study Identifies Three Distinct Types of Teen Popularity
Researchers from Florida Atlantic University and the University of Montreal in Canada conducted a novel longitudinal study to examine different types of popular adolescents. For the study, published in the journal Child Development, researchers followed 568 girls and boys in seventh and eighth grade (median age 13) for two years. “The most popular are feared AND loved.” Just like the “Mean Girls” in the iconic American teen comedy, this group of teens can be aggressive when needed and then quickly “make nice” to smooth out any ruffled feathers. Davie Campus Advising

Beginning in November, the College of Science will position articulation specialist/advisor Ana Botero on the Davie campus on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. In Spring 2020, Ana will be available full-time on the Davie campus. Read more.

We welcome the new Director of Development to the College of Science, Kelly Kirkpatrick-Marmol. Kelly will lead fundraising efforts for the college.
