We have many informative events planned throughout the year for our school leaders including the upcoming workshop  "Supporting Queer Students"  September 25th  at Philips Exeter Academy. The Town Academy conference  October 2-3  will feature a speaker from NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Health) and focus on "Building Environments to Support Emotional Wellness" and include guided round table discussions on politics on campus, student safety and student voice. The theme for the Fall Heads conference  November 8-9  in Portsmouth, NH is "Developing Leaders & Fostering Culture  in our Schools." A luncheon and round table discussion is planned for Assistant Heads on  October 11th  at Berwick Academy. Planning is well underway for our Business Officers conference and Corporate Partner showcase  January 8-9  in Portsmouth and for the first time the Admissions, Advancement and Communications will join forces  May 6-7  for a combined extravaganza  at the Omni Mt. Washington  Hotel.

We have over 25 events planned and stay tuned for more announcements during the year. See the ISANNE calendar of events here and mark the dates. Also check out our new Corporate Partners below.

Here's to a productive year ahead as our school communities engage with students to create meaningful life experiences.

ISANNE Member Views - "Imagine"
Michael Livingston, Head of School, The Sharon Academy
This month's Member View comes to us from Michael Livingston, Head at The Sharon Academy in Sharon, Vermont.

Imagine

We live in a world of diminished resources. In rural New England our student population is shrinking - rapidly. As a result, competition for students has risen dramatically, even within the public school sector. Our major donors are increasingly pressed by a larger and larger pool of worthy applicants for a finite sum of money. The response of many schools is to circle their proverbial wagons. Maybe, they wonder, we can wait it out?

No they can't. No we can't. They key to our sustainability is a total commitment, at all levels, to the cultivation of imagination.  Read More

Stepping Stones: The First Five Years of Sant Bani School
Congratulations to ISANNE's own Kent Bicknell for completing the founding story of Sant Bani School!  Stepping Stones: The First Five Years of Sant Bani School  narrates the fascinating history of Sant Bani School and its rapid growth into a dynamic educational day program in central New Hampshire. The book has already received great reviews including Richard Hawley, former head of school and author of The Headmaster's Papers  who wrote, "Stepping Stones should be an inspiration for school leaders and faculties looking to deepen their practice as well as for anyone considering starting a school."  Michael Brosnan, former editor-in-chief of Independent School Magazine commented, "What fascinates me is the way SBS anticipated both what brain science now tells us about how we learn best and what schools everywhere are embracing in the name of 21st century education ...  Through daily practice of improving the process of educating children for mind, body, spirit, and community, the school has evolved, day by day, year by year, into a truly excellent school with much to offer our divid ed world."

The book can be found on Amazon Here or contact Kent Bicknell ([email protected]) if you would like to order multiple copies.
