National School Security Guard Week:
September 16 - 22 is National School Security Guard Week. We would like to thank our district security guards Larry Clay, Jeff Illk and Willie Turner. They work hard everyday to provide security services at all of our activities and buildings.
September 15 Paycheck:
The September 15 paycheck is the first payroll for all employees in the current contract year. Be sure to check your pay stub in Skyward to make sure all of your deductions are correct. If you have questions, call Stephanie Morgan at 341-2228 or Erica Markley at 341-2428 in the Payroll Office.
October 1 Early Retirement:
October 1st is the deadline for certified staff to submit to the Board of Education early notification for resignation or retirement and receive the $1,000 bonus.
KPERS Optional Life Insurance:
KPERS Optional Life Insurance open enrollment is September 1-30. As part of your KPERS benefits, you have the opportunity to purchase additional coverage beyond KPERS basic life insurance. You can decide how much you need and pay your premiums through payroll deduction. For additional information please review the KPERS handout

Healthier Lyon County Coalition:
If you would like to complete the
Lyon County Community Perception Survey through the Blue Cross Blue Shield Pathways to a Healthy Kansas Grant, your participation would be greatly appreciated. The survey takes 3-4 minutes and one lucky winner will receive a Fitbit Blaze.
Tech Challenge:
Congratulations to Traci Meyer for the tech pop-tart challenge. She correctly answered that the upside down symbol is known as a caron or an inverted circumflex.

Board Approvals:
- approved Melissa Ogleby to represent the Board of Education on the Board Policy Review Committee for 2018-19.
- approved the Memorandum of Agreement for a Concurrent Enrollment Partnership with Emporia State University. Five approved courses are available during the regular school day for $100 per credit hour. This allows EHS students the opportunity to earn high school and post-secondary credit at the same time.
- approved to repair the chiller capacitor bank at Village Elementary for $29,529.75.
Kindergarten Ramp Up: Vicki Schweinler, Executive Director of Elementary Education and Judy Stanley, Associate Director of Teaching and Learning provided information on the week-long Kindergarten Ramp Up program that has been offered during the past two summers. They provided an overview of the program, benefits to students who participated and marketing strategies used to encourage attendance.
Beginning of school year update: Kevin Case, Superintendent of Schools, gave an overview of how well the start of school has been going.

HTK Update:
HTK architects provided their monthly update and timeline for the next several months.
- Safety and Security Update: Additional information was provided specifically on securing building entrances.
- Interviews with staff at Emporia High School have been completed with the remaining buildings to have meetings with staff in the next two weeks.
- HTK will seek board input during the October 10th board meeting.
- Community listening sessions are planned during the months of October and November, be watching for additional information as input from all stakeholders is important.
- HTK will present recommendations from the District Facility Needs Assessment to the school board in January.
