Celebration of Poet Carol Ann Russell’s work “ITALIA – Passeggiata” at the Watermark Art Center
Watermark Art Center hosted a program of original poetry written in 1997 entitled “ITALIA: Passeggiata" by poet and BSU Professor of English Carol Ann Russell. The program highlighted Russell’s poem sequence and the accompanying composition by BSU Professor Emeritus of Music Paul Brandvik sung by BSU Associate Professor of Music Cory Renbarger, with Daniel Will on piano. The accompanying limited edition broadsides, designed and illustrated by former BSU Professor of Visual Arts Jauneth Skinner, were also on display. Carol Ann Russell, a Region 2 Arts Council Fellow, is currently on sabbatical, and will be returning to Italy in October with Skinner as resident artists at St. Mark’s Church in Florence, Italy.

Funding for Individual Artists

Initial Inquiry deadline: October 15

The annual $50,000 McKnight Distinguished Artist Award recognizes artists who have made a lifelong commitment to creating art that is locally, regionally, and/or nationally significant.

These artists have chosen to make their lives and careers in Minnesota, thereby making our state a more culturally rich place. First and foremost, they have produced creatively incisive art reflecting their particular and extraordinary point of view.

McKnight Distinguished Artists have also inspired other artists, earned acclaim from audiences, patrons, critics, and other arts professionals, and some have founded and strengthened arts organizations.

This newsletter is made possible by the voters of Minnesota, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.
