A Message From Michelle
'To everything, there is a season...and a time for every purpose under heaven"
Ecclesiastes 3:1

This verse certainly resonates now, more than ever.  September has arrived in all her fiery heat to wrap us in this warm summer blanket before letting us move into the next season when those chilly days of October will feel so welcomed.  The pools have closed and the Water Ice stands have been replaced with Spiced Pumpkin Lattes!  September comes and those "first day of school" photos start appearing with the hopes (and fears) of new beginnings on the faces of our children.  Football season begins and whether it's 'Friday Night Lights', "We Are"...Penn State games, or Sunday Gamedays, you fiercely root for your team to win!

And so, the 'season' is finally becoming a reality for Pickering Manor!  It's an exciting time for us as we transition our campus and prepare to offer new areas of 'purpose' to our senior community.  Beginning on or about September 17th, fences will be in place and excavation will begin.  In scope, we will be adding a Short-term Rehab unit as well as a Memory Care unit.  These 2 dedicated additions will join the Personal Care and Long-Term Care neighborhoods we currently have.  Initially and throughout, the tangible impact we will all experience is the limited parking.  There will be dedicated parking on both the Lincoln Ave. and Chancellor St. sides of the building for families and guests.  We ask our residents, their families, our staff and our neighborhood for their patience and their support as we move forward.  Our Mission and our Vision has always been to serve the aging in our community and through these changes, we will be able to continue that purpose.

We have renderings of the project if any of you would like to stop in and see them...and meanwhile, enjoy these waning days of Summer!

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ON CONSTRUCTION and PARKING IMPACT
Almost 2 years ago, we met with our residents, families, neighbors and staff to share with them our plans for an Expansion and Renovation. At that time, we explained to all of you that as a single site, non-profit facility, it was imperative to add areas of service to stay competitive in this highly competitive marketplace of senior living. We will be adding a dedicated Short Term Rehab Unit as well as a dedicated Memory Care unit to enhance the Long-term Care, Personal Care, and Hospice Services we will continue to provide.

We are expecting that construction activity will begin this month. Wohlsen Construction is the construction company and they specialize in building/renovation of senior living facilities. The project will be built in phases. The first phase will begin as construction fencing placed on either side of the building and extending both East toward Chancellor Street and West toward Lincoln Ave. This fencing will have a definite impact on the amount of parking available.

Our plan is to shuttle the 7-3 staff to the building. There will remain 11 spaces in the front of the building (Lincoln Ave.) dedicated to families and visitors.   We ask for your patience and understanding as this project evolves and presents new challenges for all of us.

It will also impact the entrance ramp at the North end of the building, however; a temporary ramp will be built to replace the current one that will be removed and signage will be in place to indicate the areas of access.

Our commitment to you and our community continues to remain steadfast...to provide a home where we will care for you and those you love as we have proudly done for 55 years. It is this trust that you have placed in us that we will continue to honor and we appreciate all the support you have shown.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to address the issues that are within our ability to change.

Best,
Michelle Knobloch, NHA
Executive Director
