Kairos Vol. 4, Issue #40

SLUMC Building Front
Rev. Marvin Arnpriester
Friends,

A number of folk ask for a copy of the quote I used at the end of the sermon on Sunday. Shortly after we lost our baby in 1970, I discovered a poem by an unknown author. I memorized it because it spoke to me in a special way at that time of doubt and darkness. I share it with you:

"When you come to the place where the shadows are and the light ahead is withdrawn, just put your hand in God's hand 'til he leads you over and on.

You may have to tarry a while in the dark, 'til God is ready to lead, but while you are waiting, just pray and pray (lament) to him in your great need.

Then hold on to God's hand with a solid grip. Let nothing deter your stand. Keep waiting and waiting and holding on 'til the shadows pass from the land."

Sometimes the issues of life overwhelm us with fear for the future and doubt in the present. I continue to hold on to the wonderful promise of Jesus who said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."

Thanks be to God!

Marvin
UNISON PRAYER - OCTOBER 5/6
Unison Prayer Logo
Lord God, help us to be honest when we pray. Save us from false talk, cheap words and insincere conversation when we come to you in prayer. Like the Psalmist of old and the Saints who have gone before us, help us honestly say what is on our mind and in our heart when we talk to you. Keep us confident that your love is not severed even when we cry out to you in our hurt and despair. Help us not deny nor run from our anger, but instead name it and lay it on your altar of love and concern so you might take our anguished cry and turn it into your praise and our healing. This we pray in the name of Jesus, who trusted you with his cry of pain on the cross. Amen.
