James J Hill Days and a glorious weekend brought people from far and near to a beautiful celebration of our community. An inspiring add this year was an Interfaith Prayer Service held on Sunday morning on the corner of Minnetonka Avenue and Lake Street in Wayzata.
It welcomed and left a flash crowd of people of all faiths, and no particular faith tradition, inspired by its message of peace, love and hope.
It left me with the realization that sometimes - with all good intentions - we speak about and strive to build the community we long to be. And that is always good. But sometimes we approach this worthy aspiration with such a particular idea of what community should look like, or should feel like, that we miss what community really is...

At the annual Great Expectations (GE) Breakfast last month, guest speaker Chris Coleman, former St. Paul mayor, reminded us that, "When we believe in our children and give them community support, then we can change lives for generations to come."
The event and generous contributions to the Great Expectations Initiative provide opportunities for community residents to become informed, engaged and invested in the cradle-to-career educational success of all of our kids.
Great Expectations for our kids are created and fueled by timely investments and opportunities made possible by ordinary people who care. People like you!
We are 76% of the way toward our Great Expectations goal of $260,000 by Sept. 30, which means we still need to raise $63,126 in the next 18 days. Can you make a donation and a life-changing difference for a child today?
