Murwood Families,

Tomorrow is Picture Day, a favorite of the year because all our students look so sharp for the big day.  Please return the envelope sent home to you.

Save the date for our Welcome Back Picnic, Friday, September 28, 5-7 pm on the field!

Please see our new fundraiser, Mabels Labels, to get your child's name on EVERYTHING you own so all those jackets, lunchboxes, and water bottles find their way back to you!

Lice Prevention and Information
Let's face it, nobody likes lice.  Not the kids who get it, the parents who have to treat it or the school staff who have to manage it.  It is an unfortunate reality of elementary school life.
Following is some information that will hopefully dispel some of the myths about lice and the stigma it carries, as well as the District's policy regarding lice management in our school.
Lice is a nuisance condition that is not associated with any disease process.  Infestations are common in elementary school age children and their families, regardless of socioeconomic status or hygienic living conditions. Lice is spread from head to head contact as well as through the sharing of hats, combs, helmets, headphones bedding, clothing and other personal items. It can be spread in a variety of environments as well, including the home (sleepovers), sports activities, movie theaters, birthday parties and school. It often seems that the school is the source but usually it is picked up somewhere else and brought into the school environment.
The following link has some great information on how to treat and control head lice:
The Walnut Creek School District follows the recommendations of both the CDHP (California Department of Public Health) and the NASN (National Association of School Nurses) whose position is that in the school setting, head lice should not disrupt the educational process and students will not be excluded for the presence of nits (eggs).  Students found with nymphs or adult lice will need to be picked up and treated. Parents/guardians will be contacted and treatment options discussed. Upon returning to school, the student will need to be checked and cleared by a qualified staff person before returning to class. A notice will be sent out to the affected student's class.  No student with lice is ever identified and privacy is always protected.
Please feel free to contact the office should you have any questions.

From the PTA President

The year is off to a great start. The members of the PTA board are all busy prepping to help make this another fun and enriching year for our kids at Murwood. We hope you'll join us at our first general meeting on September 18 at 7 pm, in the Murwood Library, where you can meet the board, hear about the activities we are planning for the year, and share your input. All parents are welcome, and childcare will be provided.

We hope you'll also join us at our annual Back-to-School Picnic on September 28 at 5-7 pm. It's a great opportunity to reconnect with friends, meet the parents of your children's classmates, and help welcome new families to our community. Bring a blanket and a picnic dinner and enjoy music and dessert courtesy of the PTA. We hope you'll join us for a fun, casual evening.

Check out the Murwood PTA website https://murwoodpta.org/  for useful information like an event calendar and access to the student directory (available with a PTA membership). If you haven't joined the PTA yet, please consider joining. Annual membership is just $15 per year, and it allows you to vote on PTA activities, spending, and priorities.

Thank you,
Mustapha (Mus) Goumi
