For the  parents and families of St. Therese Chinese Catholic School

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to another school year! It has been a very busy first few weeks of the school year - it is great to see so many familiar faces and to welcome many new students to St. Therese School as well.

I am extremely excited and honored to be named the new principal of St. Therese! I really appreciate the love and support from our parents and whole school community as I begin this important role at our school. Along with our great teachers and staff, I remain committed to providing the very best educational experience for every child entrusted in our care. I have seen how far we have come in my 21 years at the school, and I am very excited to build on this successful history as we move forward in the years to come.

I would also like to congratulate and welcome Mrs. Jessica Stofko in her new role as 3rd grade homeroom, 3rd and 4th math teacher, 3rd grade science teacher, and Assistant Principal. We are so very excited to work together in this new phase of leadership for St. Therese.

I look forward to our continued educational partnership with all of the St. Therese parents. If you have any questions or concerns at any time, please feel free to email me at [email protected] or contact me at the school office at 312.326.2837.

Sincerely,
Ms. Lisa Deborah Oi

I HAVE A QUESTION FOR THE PRINCIPAL

Get to know a little more about our new Principal! Many students have pressing questions for Ms. Oi, so we are adding a new column in the parent newsletter called " Ask the Principal," which will feature questions from students around the building.

Mavis, a 1st Grader, wants to know:
"Do you have any pets at home?"

Ms. Oi is happy to share that she has TWO dogs at home! "I have a 6-year-old German shepherd named Maximus, and a 1-year-old Australian shepherd/Chinese shar pei mix named Penny. "

FACULTY ATTENDS HARVARD PROJECT ZERO

During the month of July, five St. Therese faculty members traveled to Harvard University for the Project Zero Classroom professional development workshop. This annual workshop is an opportunity for educators from all over the world to participate together in seminars with the leading minds in the education field.

Along with large group seminars, participants also worked in smaller study groups where they were able to apply what they learned to their own teaching practices and reflections.

The St. Therese faculty members who traveled to Harvard this year included Mr. Tom Howard (Religious Ed), Mr. Jeff Chrusciel (6th grade and Athletic Dir.), Mr. Nick Filipiak  (Science and Religious Ed) , Mr. Matt Henties (4th grade), and Ms. Gabi Marsh (JK).

ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL, IT WAS A
DARK AND STORMY MORNING...

...but the students (and parents!) had smiles on their faces as they walked into the building for the first day of the new school year.

FLAG FOOTBALL KICKS-OFF WITH 1st ANNUAL FREEDOM BOWL

Our Varsity Flag Football Team played the Frances Xavier Warde School 8th Grade Flag Football Team in a special game to commemorate 9/11 and to promote good sportsmanship. The event started with a prayerful pre-game ceremony. The game itself was very competitive, with FXW pulling out a 20-6 victory. The level of respect for those who lost their lives on 9/11 and the high level of sportsmanship displayed by both teams made this event a great success!! This looks to become an annual tradition for both schools!
