PART 2 Highlighting the Artists of Coco and Salem
Below a Tease for Part 3 in this Issue of Many Parts / Weeks Featuring 350 Photos from the 60' and 70's
Before becoming the First Lady, Jackie Bouvier almost married another man; World War II veteran and Wall Street Banker John Husted. She was just 22 years old at the time and quickly grew to hate the idea of becoming a housewife. By March she called the whole wedding off and mere months later started dating John F Kennedy who was a U.S. congressman at the time. She met Kennedy at a dinner-party in Georgetown, and the two hit it off.
M*A*S*H was an American television series developed by Larry Gelbart which aired on CBS from 1972 to 1983. The show is set during the Korean War and follows members of the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (which is where the acronym MASH comes from). The show ran for 11-years despite the fact that the Korean War lasted just over three years.

Hanging around at the airport waiting can become very dull. People start looking for ways to keep themselves entertained. There are only so many cups of coffee you can go and drink. There's just so much you can do on your phone before the battery dies. And there are just so many conversations you can have with strangers. This young lady had tried it all, but the boredom persisted. She decided to take planking to a new level by trying it out on the luggage conveyor belt.

for Pt. 1
and Featured Photos on Farrah Fawcett, JFK & Jacqueline, Linda Carter, Robert Downey Jr., Sting, Bob Dylan, Barbara Eden, Jaws, Al Pacino, Heather Locklear, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Ann-Margaret, Brady Bunch, Patrick Swayze, Charles Bronson & Jill Ireland, Eric Clapton.
Janis was known to fused her rock with the Blues, giving it far more depth. Janis was also widely regarded for her 'electric' stage presence and though she died young, she still remains one of the top-selling musicians in the United States.
Despite having only released three albums before her untimely death, Janis Joplin is arguably one of the most prominent female rock stars of all time and certainly the biggest of her era. In 1995, she was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Pictured here is the legendary comedic genius Robin Williams in 1978. Mork & Mindy was his first big break. This legendary role launched his career and propelled him towards his future greatness. In it, he played the role of "Mork from Ork", a bumbling alien who moves in with an earthling named Mindy. The roomies attempt to maintain a normal household which goes about as well as expected.
Right from the start, Williams was primarily known for his comedic bits and his demeanor was said to be usually quite in sync with his on stage persona. But it seems Williams had long suffered from depression and eventually dementia which resulted in his death by suicide in 2014.
Pictured here is the legendary slapstick team known as The Three Stooges. Captured here, out of character, are Moe Howard, whose real name was Moses Horwitz; Larry Fine was born Louis Fienberg, and Curly Howard's real name was Jerome Lester Horwitz.
Looking back, 'The Three Stooges' may seem like nothing more than mindless entertainment but they turned vaudeville slapstick into an art form. They inspired many comedic actors and writers, their influence can be seen in just about every form of comedy no matter the medium.
Part 2 (
https://conta.cc/2oTRJAB ) was in the Sept 10 Issue and featured Jaimie Lee Curtis, Get Smart's Don Adams & Barbara Feldon, Martha Stewart, Janet & Michael Jackson, Caroline and John Kennedy, Tina Louise, Jim Morrison (Light my Fire), Bob Dylan, Sonny & Cher, Ronettes, ZZ Top, Sophia Loren, Clint Eastwood, A very young Sally Fields ( well since this is a Feature on the 60's & 70's most of the photos show the Subjects at Younger Ages), Melanie Griffiths & Don Johnson ( Ages 15 & 22)

ELVIS PRESLEY PAINTINGS from Don Oriolo and RAQUEL WELCH Signed Photographs
" Raquel on Cross "
Over 50 years ago filming began in London and the Canary Isles
on a notorious movie that would change Hollywood and popular culture forever. The hour glass figure of a young aspiring actress called Raquel Welch, was sewn into a deer-skin ' barely-bikini '
And together with a script comprised of only grunts and screams, launched the movies' first overtly outrageous sex symbol.
" One Million Years BC " cost a miserly $500,000 but even after censors cut eight minutes that were considered too provocative
it grossed more than $10 Million at the US Box Office alone.
It spawned the best-selling movie poster of all time and a long-lasting friendship and collaboration between the actress and photographer Terry O'Neill who was on the set to capture images that were both candid and often comical.
When Ms. Welch began receiving critical letters from feminists complaining she was objectifying women, she told O'Neill she was being " crucified " for taking the role. The conversation spawned perhaps the most iconic image of her ever taken by O'Neill when
he built a wooden cross in a studio and hung Raquel from it, wearing her notorious bikini.
O'Neill had second thoughts
and refused
to release the image until 30 years later.

Part 2 Airport Photos
This polar bear was tired of winter, and all he wanted was a flight to a warmer climate. Like every normal person, he came to the airport in search of such a trip. However, he hadn't purchased a ticket. Nor had he followed security protocols and checked his luggage in. Instead, he reported straight to the plane. Imagine his disappointment when he was told to say to the terminal building to buy a ticket! It looks like this Alaskan adventurer isn't giving up, though!
This guy was so excited when his girlfriend came home from a trip. He was waiting at the airport and could no longer contain himself. As soon as he saw her, he got on one knee and asked the big question. She looks so shocked and surprised. The people in the background clearly look as though they enjoyed being part of the audience for the very public proposal. From her body language, it seems like she definitely said yes!
Traveling with a small child is challenging enough. But with more than one, you need to work smart. You have to keep an eye on your children at all times. The airport is such a fascinating place that it's easy for them to get distracted and fall behind. This traveler thought she'd come up with the perfect plan. She had both kids on leashes, but it appears they were taking her for a walk instead of the other way around.
The Vnukovo International Airport in Moscow is a stark reminder of the frailty of flying. When your plane takes off, you can look down and see the three pieces that remain of Dagestan Airlines Flight 37. The aircraft encountered difficulties, and there was a problem with the emergency landing. It broke into pieces and killed two people. It was decided to leave the remains of the plane there for pilot trials. But it does nothing for passenger confidence!
THIS IS AWESOME HAD TO REPEAT THIS ONE FROM PART 1
No, your eyes are not deceiving you. This is an airplane cabin full of falcons. These winged birds of prey were not up to flying to their destination old school. And so, they insisted that their owner give them the same travel benefits as all the other employees. Their owner, a Saudi prince, was determined to show that he was not discriminatory in his approach. And being that he was a Saudi prince, the airline had no choice but to acquiesce.

A LOOK BACK AT 60S AND 70S
Born Robert Weston Smith, legendary rock & roll DJ "Wolfman Jack" rose to fame throughout the '60s.The Brooklyn native studied broadcasting while supporting himself as a door-to-door salesman. It wasn't until 1965, after getting a job at a Mexico-based station, XERB-AM that the
legend of "wolfman Jack" began to make mainstream news.
Wolfman Jack went on to make numerous television appearances and hosting NBC-TV's The Midnight Special. His final syndicated radio broadcast was in Washington, DC from a Planet Hollywood restaurant on June 30, 1995. He died July 2, 1995 of a heart attack.
Led Zeppelin consisted of guitarist Jimmy Page, singer Robert Plant, bassist and keyboardist John Paul Jones, and drummer John Bonham. The band's long-form songs with heavy, guitar-driven sound led to them being cited as one of the progenitors of heavy metal.
They drew their unique style drew from a wide variety of genres including blues, psychedelia, and folk music. Although they were initially unpopular with critics their fame grew exponentially, with their song "Stairway to Heaven" now among the most influential works in rock music history. Taken in Los Angeles back in 1980, pictured here is Pat Benatar posed with her band. Benatar's debut album "In the Heat of the Night" was released in August 1979, and by early 1980 it had reached #12 in the United States. Also in 1980 was the release of her LP, "Crimes of Passion", featuring her signature song "Hit Me with Your Best Shot". "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" was Benatar's first single to break the US Top 10 and it ended up reaching gold status and selling more than a million copies in the United States.
Marilyn Monroe is one of the biggest pop-icons in history. Actress, model, sex-icon and mistress to the president of the United States John F. Kennedy. Often cast as a "dumb blonde" she was the embodiment of the 1950's entire attitude towards women and sexuality in general. She was beautiful, stylish, and died far too young and under very suspicious circumstances. Even her death achieved legendary status, as conspiracy theories still surround it decades later.

Due to Publishing a few less Issues over the Summer; Alyson Crean's Excellent E-Mail Features has Created a Small Waiting List in my "Put on Blast" File. Will try over the course of the next Issues to Double / Triple Up on The City of Key West Features. Thanks for the Great Material.
During Tuesday's City Commission, Key West Police Chief Donie Lee and City Manager Jim Scholl recognized Mary Canalejo as the first City employee in our history to have served for 50 years.
Before a packed house, Canalejo modestly accepted the accolades and a standing ovation staffers and many members of the police department.
Canalejo started in 1968 as secretary to the flamboyant and now infamous Fire Chief Joseph "Bum" Farto, whose disappearance in 1975 -- after a conviction for selling drugs -- has become Key West legend.
"I think she knows what happened to him," quipped Lee, "but that's for another day."
Canalejo transferred to the police department long before the scandal, however. She has served under 11 chiefs of police. During her tenure, she has been named employee of the year and has earned and received numerous awards and recognitions.
"Mary's extensive historical knowledge has served as an invaluable asset," said Lee. "To this day she comes to work with the attitude and work ethic as if it were her first day some 50 years ago. She does so with great professionalism and a great sense of humor. It is not often that you see an employee who is so dedicated to an organization that they will give 50 years of their life."
"I can't think of a better place to work, or more excellent people to work for," said Canalejo. "That's why I've been here 50 years. And the last ten years have been especially amazing with the leadership of Chief Lee, Capt. Brandenburg and Capt. Torres."
In addition to a plaque honoring her service, the City presented Canalejo with a shadowbox containing ten challenge coins, each commemorating five year increments in her half century of service.

The popular western series, Gunsmoke was actually a radio show before making the transition to television in 1955. The TV series ran from September 10, 1955, to March 31, 1975, on CBS, with 635 total episodes.
By its second season in 1956, the show has made its way onto the top ten list and soon shot up to the number one spot. It stayed at the top until 1961 and even when bumped down, it remained among the top 20 programs until 1964.
Nowadays Diana Rigg can be seen in Game of Thrones, as Olenna Tyrell. But once upon a time, the young, glamorous, smokey eyed beauty was most famous for her role in the 1965 "Avengers" series.
Diana Rigg was famous, audacious, and often described as the most desirable woman in the world in her heyday. Her love life was just as public as her award winning career. Shamelessly dating a much older (married man), and boldly stating she had no desire "to be respectable".
Taken back in 1972, this picture features Elvis Presley in his gold glasses and lion pendant. In addition to his glitzy accessories, Elvis was also known for his pitch black hair, which he dyed, his natural hair color was brown.
His decadence didn't end there, he was quite the ladies man, and after his divorce from Priscilla was finalized, he was said to let some of the 'good looking' ladies that stalked his infamous mansion, Graceland, inside the house after hours. On one occasion, it was a reported 152 women!
Lyra Radford is one of the Principle Writers of this "Groovy History" Feature; You will also find the addition Authors from "Groovy History" in the Link Below.
Lyra spends her days exploring all shades of history. In her writing, she covers topics ranging from the 'groovy' to the downright strange. She enjoys books, movies, and strong coffee. She also fancies herself the world's greatest air hockey player. She learned the ins and outs of writing and producing film/television at Palm Beach State and The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. She is currently enrolled at Arizona State University studying psychology and writing. Her work has been featured by some of the most prolific sites on the web and she is the author of the travel guide "Two-Days Exploring Haunted Key West".

More AIRPORT PHOTOS
The San Diego airport decided that those pets who travel deserve the same amenities as their human companions. They created an area where you can take your pet to let them do their business uninterrupted. No more filthy looks from commuters when your pooch makes a poop on the main concourse! And to make it more pet-friendly, they decided to use a fake fire hydrant in the middle of the area. That's enough to get any doggie in the mood to relieve themselves!
Here is an example of the strength of the human will to survive. Faced with an indefinite wait at the airport, it was time to get creative. Lousy flying conditions persisted, and it looked like these people were going to be waiting at the airport for quite some time. Needing some sleep, they found some cardboard boxes to create beds. The boxes created a bit of darkness and gave them some privacy as they spent some 'quality' time on the airport floor.
In today's times, airport security needs to be tight. But there's a line in the sand that shouldn't get crossed. Here we see airport security not only going over the line in the sand, but they're also entirely obliterating it. A nun is being subjected to an additional physical check by a security official. We realize that disguising yourself as a nun is an ingenious way of smuggling contraband. But one look at the lady's face should assure you she is who she says she is.
There is no business, like show business. And these two young men are proof of that. They have taken the boredom out of waiting at the airport by introducing their fellow travelers to some exciting entertainment. In an extraordinary show of strength, they are demonstrating their acrobatic prowess, all while one of them engages in a riveting read. Unfortunately, their audience isn't huge. Although I'm sure that those who were there appreciated their efforts! Keep up the good work, guys!
Sometimes, the security measures that airports implement seem insane. Why would they ban snow globes of all things? They're so cute and harmless, right? Wrong. They were banned because they were the perfect way to transport dangerous chemicals on to an airplane. Yet another simple pleasure ruined by the times we live in. On the other hand, Durians were banned in Bangkok because of their awful odor. Some people might consider that another victory in the ongoing war against sensory terrorism!

As we mark a year since Hurricane Irma rolled in to our lives I am flooded with gratitude.
I think back to a year ago today when we were frantically evacuating 197 animals to safety.
Our community opened their hearts and homes to our shelter animals not knowing if they would have a home to come back to themselves. Post-Irma, 60% of these animals were adopted by their foster families which brought sunshine when we needed it the most.
On behalf of the board, volunteers, staff and most importantly the animals of the FKSPCA, I want to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all of our foster families who care for the animals in their time of need.
Whether it is a hurricane evacuation, a dog recovering from a broken bone surgery, a litter of orphaned kittens, or a senior dog needing extra love; your care and attention saves lives. If you are interested in joining our team of foster families please contact Lindsey Thompson at
lindsey@fkspca.org in Key West, or Tara Vickrey in Marathon at

Thank you for being heroes and partners in our lifesaving mission!

LAST STAND CITES SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH 1300 ROGOs OFFER
Last Stand strongly opposes accepting an additional 1300 workforce housing allocations for the Keys, due to the unintended consequences impacting the residents' quality of life should these units be built. No one disputes the heightened need for workforce housing in the Keys, however alternatives exist that would neither create an undue tax burden nor compromise public safety
Keys residents can contemplate the negative impacts of 1300 units over the existing Affordable housing units (Rate of Growth Ordinance or ROGOs) to be allocated by the County: increased traffic, additional demands on our already stressed infrastructure, and the likelihood of raised taxes for new schools.
In May, Last Stand characterized the two underlying conditions attached to these 1300 ROGOs as being unrealistic and unenforceable. The intervening months have only reinforced our conviction that expecting early evacuation by service sector employees and first responders 48 hours in advance of a hurricane's landfall, does not mesh with real life demands on these workers. Further, the requirement for early evacuation by workforce housing residents cannot be enforced by landlords.
There are other solutions to meet the housing needs of the County's workers: make 80% of the County's ROGOs available only for workforce housing for Very Low, Low, and Median incomes; effectively enforce existing affordable and vacation rental rules to stop rental abuses; the County could require some businesses to establish housing for its employees. These and other proposed solutions offer a way to meet the needs without unduly burdening the County's residents. Contact Marc_Songer@Comcast.Net Board Dir. 305-394-3807

FKCC's Constitution Day Focuses on First Ammendment
Celebrate the birthday of the United States Government at Florida Keys Community College's Constitution Day event on Monday, September 17, 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the library on the Key West Campus. Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787, thus laying the foundation of our government, rights, and freedoms.
This year's program will focus on the First Amendment and the role of the Free Press in our democracy and society. The College will welcome guest speakers Bill Becker, News Director of US1 Radio, and Kay Harris, Editor of the Key West Citizen, to discuss the media's influence, responsibility, and challenges.
Coordinated by FKCC Business Law instructor and attorney Stephen Muffler, FKCC's Constitution Day activities aim to educate the public on their rights under the Constitutional Amendments and encourage habits of being a good citizen.
"The
U.S. Constitution is the blue print of our country, market system, and free society
," said Muffler. "
It acts as the common denominator for all Americans, regardless of our differences
."
Constitution Day attendees will receive free pocket Constitutions donated by the City of Key West's Citizens Review Board. Attendees will also learn how to register to vote with the help of representatives from the League of Women Voters. To learn more about Constitution Day and to access informational resources, videos, and games, visit www.fkcc.edu.

Works of American Photographer Walker Evans on display at Custom House Museum
A selection of prints captured by Walker Evans, an
American photographer recognized for pioneering a documentary style of photography during the Great Depression on behalf of the Farm Security Administration, is currently on exhibit in the foyer at the Custom House Museum. "
3 Weeks in Cuba: Walker Evans & Ernest Hemingway" features 12 of Evans' 46 images taken while on assignment in Cuba, and reveal a visual account of Havana in 1933.
Considered one of the greatest photographers of his time, Evans' straightforward precision in his approach to portraiture and documentary redefined the genre. A literary thinker, most of his images were shot for books, magazines, articles, and essays. Some of the prints in the Custom House exhibit were included in the book "The Crime of Cuba," published in several magazines, and featured in other gallery exhibitions. They form part of the larger collection of 46 on loan by Key West local Benjamin 'Dink' Bruce, whose family were longtime friends of the Hemingways.

It's trench time for the Key West Fire Department's Urban Search and Rescue team. This week the first responders are out near the Hawk Missile Site learning how to safely extricate an accident victim from a deep trench.
"This vital training for our department," said Fire Chief Michael Davila, "but this also served double duty for Community Services. Their crews came out and dug these trenches. So both departments are benefiting."
The USAR team is equipped and ready for just about anything imaginable -- and sometimes the unimaginable. The USAR team is an advanced rescue team trained and equipped to respond countywide to structural collapses, incidents in which victims are trapped, or in which there is a threat to the safety of first responders.
This week's 3-day training session is USAR-certifying new firefighters for the team.
The USAR team has rescued people trapped in buildings after hurricanes. They retrieved two victims in a construction collapse at the Key West International Airport. They saved a man who was crushed under tons of concrete when a cistern cover collapsed.
The team is often called upon to remove medical patients who cannot be transported by normal means, whether it's because they're in a loft or just too large to be carried through a small doorway. The advanced equipment and expertise is sometimes called upon to enhance vehicle extractions after an accident.
In the photo: While colleagues show up the walls of the trench, Firefighter Kyle Malone descends a ladder to the spot where a dummy victim lies awaiting rescue.
