Safe Sport has been a "buzz word" we have been hearing a lot in the news lately and there is some confusion as to what it means and what it includes. Safe Sport represents a wide range of ways we, as sport leaders, must work to make our sports safe for all our participants. While first aid and emergencies are often what comes to mind first when we think safety, this encompasses all aspects of safety: sexual, physical, psychological and neglect.
Where does the club start? Put a Participant/Child Protection Policy into place that addresses a commitment to protecting participants with thorough screening practices, reporting practices and ensuring Rule of Two protocols are always followed. (Rule of Two means one participant is never alone with one adult). We all need to work together to protect our participants and our sport!
As always, I am here to help your club with any aspect of governance or operations that you may be working on.
Note: Depending on funding, there may be positions available for May & June as well as Team Leader positions available within BOOM. There may also be opportunities for positions that are portions of the summer only.
